Re: Raxivace's 2020 Movies or: (Neo-General Chat IV: Jimbo Gets Lost in Eggtown)
As for the "twist", I never really saw it as a big twist... it's not like we thought that the "flash-sideways" world was just a normal part of their normal reality... it was always going to be an alternate dimension, or an after-life, or a different timeline, etc. We didn't know...

I finished Lost. I should be in bed now but so many ideas are tumbling around in my noggin I thought I'd just drop in to mention this. I don't expect to be making coherent sense of everything (or anything, really) by tomorrow, or maybe ever. I also really think that a second watch is almost necessar...

TBH I'm really surprised you didn't like the Toussaint/Blood & Wine stuff more. That whole DLC seemed a really colorful, creative riff on the Don Quixote theme blended with tons of fairy-tale stuff. Granted, something like Shrek's kinda already done that, but I've never seen it done in a video ...

Should I bother with Gwent? I haven't so far, but offers to play during missions keep popping up. I agree with Raxi. Gwent was one of my favorite parts of the game. The only difficulty was in collecting all the cards as there are some that can only be gotten at certain times from certain people (an...

Finished Season 5. TBH, I got a bit lost with all the time-traveling stuff, which is not unusual given that time travel, even in the best of cases, is completely absurd. Still, the more the season wound on the more I liked how it was using the time travel element to play with notions of fate VS free...

Finished Season 4. I think compared to the previous seasons, S4 was the most streamlined and focused in that it was mostly about the suspense generated by the situation. It seemed far less theme-heavy than the previous seasons and mostly there to setup the ending. Despite the less theme-heavy approa...

I agree with Raxi, but I'd add that many long movies had "intermissions" that make for a natural stopping place. IIRC, Patton had one. Of course, by my standards we aren't talking "long movies" until we get to something like the 7.5 hour Satantango, which I actually did watch in ...

I finished Season 1 of Lost yesterday, probably stayed up way too late doing it. In a way, the series reminds me a lot of Twin Peaks in that you have this balance of character-driven, soap-opera-ish melodrama and the weird, supernatural-ish, mystery element. The Birds (1963) - To me, The Birds was always pretty simple to "decode," and may have been the most direct that Hitchcock ever was about a metaphor. Early on you have Hedron as the socialite hearing rumors about herself/her love life. Immediately after this, Taylor buys a pair of "l...
