Just installed Windows 10

Post by Gendo »

I haven't used it enough to comment on the OS itself, but I can say that I'm impressed with the upgrade process. Took less than an hour, no issues occurred, and it didn't mess up any of my stuff that I've found so far. At the least Chrome and iTunes still run fine; I was still logged into the stuff I should be logged into in Chrome, etc. No lost data or programs that I've noticed.

I'm loving 10 - didn't have any real problems with 8 but now tons of stuff seems to work better now that I have upgraded to 10.
Getting a connection to my TV for media sharing and screen mirroring used to be a bit dicey - now its rock solid. The integration with Xbox is infinitely better. Plus loving the layout - like that the tiles now appear on the windows button rather than having to swap to tablet mode all the time.

Upgrade went smooth and quick as you noted .. the only issue I have now is that support for edge isn't exactly universal and I find I still have to do stuff on chrome.

I found my computer slowed down a little bit after upgrading, but it seems to have normalized (or I just notice it less). Otherwise I find it easier to use and navigate. No problems with the upgrade either. I'm extremely happy that Windows "apps" are now small windows, as salmon mentioned.

So one thing I haven't taken the time to figure out... now that windows apps actually are windowed; is there still a distinction between a normal installed program and a windows app? If I recall, in windows 8, apps were things that you installed from the app store (and came with the OS by default), which were not listed in the "programs and features" list as normal installed stuff. Is this still the case? If so, it still bugs me; why can't all programs be treated the same?
