Re: I knew the south was backwards but damn...
Those laws are frustratingly pointless and will end up enabling the very things they're trying to prevent. If people followed the law, there'd be trans women bringing their tits to male bathrooms and bearded trans men in female bathrooms; it would make it so much easier for a random dude to perv on women and pretend to be a trans man if caught. He wouldn't even need to bother cross dressing.
More realistically, trans people who do and don't pass will just continue using the appropriate bathrooms, and the only people caught under this law would be the result of others intentionally reporting people they know are trans. Which would be horrible for visibly trans people - especially trans women - who really, really need to pee, knowing that if they used the female bathrooms people might be lying in wait to get them arrested, but if they used the male bathrooms they'd stand a high chance of being beaten up / raped / killed. Apparently the trans community as a whole has a much higher rate of urinary infections and bladder/kidney problems due to unnaturally holding in pee precisely because of things like this.

Apparently it's far more than just that - the bill completely removes any anti-discrimination protections against LGBT people, e.g. a company would be legally allowed to fire someone for being gay, or refuse service to a gay couple.

I've been saying it for years: Restrooms should not be separated by gender but by function.
Stalls for those who want to sit down behind one door, pissoirs behind the other door, with a one-way urinella dispenser for people without a penis.
Voila, problem solved.
(I know there are legal restrictions to this)

Common sense is another word for prejudice.

Or single occupancy stalls with a common sink area; they'd just need to change the signs on the door. And then a row of urinals behind another door. Which yeah, I guess is sort of what you're saying.
And I'm just going to leave this here because his expression is the best
