Vacation recommendations - Looking at you, Cash
Vacation recommendations - Looking at you, Cash
Looking for a place to go for our anniversary this year, next month. We go somewhere every year. This year we want to save money, so looking for something within driving distance (8 or less hours drive pretty much). Considering Tennessee or Kentucky, which is why I want Cash's input. Also looking at the South; Georgia or parts of Alabama.
Basically looking for something scenic and nice; somewhere in a state we haven't been to. North Carolina is right out. VA too.

Pensacola, FL?

Just saw this - Pigeon Forge, not just for Dollywood but it's okay if you like theme parks and can deal with a little hokeyness but the area is some of the best scenery this side of the Big River and the bears probably won't eat you. But I'd still prefer the West and real mountains for a vacation, but the bears might eat you... or maybe that's only a danger for school children.

Pigeon Forge is a nice area. Visited it briefly a few years back when vacationing in nearby Gatlinburg which I really enjoyed. Scenic. Don't know what it's like after last year's fires.

So we're here. Dollywood today.

Word of warning - there used to be a woman who hung around there scamming tourists by selling fake Dolly Parton merchandise and claiming to be Dolly's daughter. Dolly Parton never had any children.

I didn't realize country music fans had any money you could con them out of.CashRules wrote:Word of warning - there used to be a woman who hung around there scamming tourists by selling fake Dolly Parton merchandise and claiming to be Dolly's daughter. Dolly Parton never had any children.

So I'm back. Good trip. Scenery was great. Dollywood was fine, but not as good as Busch Gardens. The towns of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg themselves were really nice. A lot of great food. And so much free wine... we did free wine tastings and 5 different wineries.

So, you didn't get attacked by a bear?
