Like, I don't dispute that girls tend to perform better academically at school and we need to seriously consider why that is and support boys to learn. But I have a couple of disputes, like:

a) Yeah, because being disorganised and restless and noisy is definitely only something that happens to boys and therefore requesting boys to sit down and shut the fuck up is obviously misandry

b) Boys don't get told to sit down and shut the fuck up often enough whereas we're constantly telling our girls and young women that their voices shouldn't be heard

c) Boys are treated like defective girls? HOW BOUT YOU GO FUCK YOURSELF MICHAEL THOMPSON. Our entire society is predicated on the notion that men are default, women are 'other'.

d) Can we not idolise the good old days (where women were fucked over even more consistently than they are now) or talk about 'boys being boys' because that is a chain of logic that is used to excuse some very shitty behaviour (like, say, aggression, sexual harassment and rape). I have zero time for regressive notions of archetypal masculinity

e) Can you tell I have just come from a shitty fucking meeting, I am so angry at everything right now

f) Can you not talk about things being 'female centred' like it's some kind of goddamn violation of the Geneva Convention. Nobody, fucking nobody, gives a shit when 99% of things are male centred (even drug rehabilitation programmes in prison revolve around the notion that everyone undergoing them is a white dude). I'm not sorry if we tell our girls that they have value and deserve attention because no one is going to tell them that when they're grown

g) 'If boys are constantly subject to disapproval for their interests and enthusiasms, they are likely to become disengaged and lag further behind'. Right, but are they, though? Because so far, you haven't really given me much evidence that teaching in schools is 'female centred'. You've just sort of said that it is. And we kind of know that society in general caters to the interest and enthusiasms of boys, which is why girls make up so little of media aimed at children.

h) Lady, you are not giving me any stats on the reasons boys are expelled form school. You're saying that boys are statistically more likely to be expelled than girls (I have no beef with her stats on this) and that the reasons can be silly reasons, but you are not telling me how many expulsions are for silly reasons and how many are for serious reasons.

j) 'Bring back recess' followed by 'recess may soon be a thing of the past'. So, it hasn't actually gone away yet. You want us to bring back something that may not even go away in the first place.

k) You are telling me that children have less recess time than they did in the 1970s (because the 70s were super awesome?) and that they play fewer physical games, but you are not telling me what the effects of this are on boys. You know what, there are fewer pairs of flares in the world now than there were in the 1970s. Do you know what effect this has had on boys? PROBABLY FUCK ALL, YOU DINGDONG

We shouldn't care about girls and their interests because the world is only right and proper when things are centered around men. Stop pandering to girls and start pandering to boys because thousands of years of pandering to boys in literally every social, economic, and political sphere can't be wrong

Nah, that's cool. I am being unreasonable and shouty and I know I am. I'm just frustrated. Like, does anyone think that anyone has given the slightest shit about girls in schools up until now? Ever? Up until, say, the last ten, twenty years, nobody gave a solitary shit about tailoring learning to suit the learning styles of girls or caring about promoting girls in subjects like maths and science (that girls were traditionally considered too stupid for because everyone knows that boys are much cleverer than girls). And now there is the slightest suggestion that girls are outperforming boys or that schools are tailoring their teaching to girls and people are shitting absolute bricks over it and talking about how the entire educational system is deliberately failing boys and ruining society. Nobody gave a shit when schools failed girls. Nobody.
