New house
New house
I don't remember if I ever mentioned here that we're moving soon. Bought a bunch of land in Louisburg, NC; about 35 minutes from Raleigh where we are now. Building a new house there. Broke ground a couple weeks ago; there's now a foundation and all that. Closed on the land last July; been working on getting everything set to actually break ground since then. Fully custom design, going back and forth with an architect to design the plans. Full finished basement of which half will be the new theater room. Exciting stuff!

I hope you put some secret passages that you can only enter by pulling the correct book off of a bookshelf, or perhaps by pulling a blazing torch grafted to the wall. Why even custom make a house otherwise.

Re: New house
It goes quick! Most people said 6th months from ground-breaking until move in, which seems about right so far. Had about 2 weeks of delays so far; still looks like late July for completion.
Re: New house
It slowed down a bunch of the past couple months, once framing was 90% done. Suddenly it wasn't a bunch of new stuff every day; more like waiting several days until something else happens. Failed inspection a few times due to various issues but finally moved past that. Hoping it's done first week of September now, but we'll see.

Re: New house
Random house update. lol my last post said hopefully done first week of September. Here we are, 2 months past that, hoping now that it's done by Christmas. And not feeling too confident about that.
We had a lot of little delays. And one giant delay, where the drywallers were just terrible. Several weeks in a row of telling us "it will be done tomorrow". And when they finally did get it done, it was such a bad job that the painters basically had to fix it all (the drywaller company paid the painter for that). So painting got held up because of that, and the majority of stuff that's left can't be done until after painting.
Meanwhile, it at least has all the siding, drywall, primer, almost all tile, deck is just about done, etc. So moving along. As soon as painting is done (who knows when), we can install floor, then cabinets, then the rest of plumbing fixtures, etc.

Ha ha, remember when I said we hoped it would be done by Christmas? Here we are in April; and still not moved in. Just delay after delay after delay non-stop since September. It's been so stressful and frustrating. But it is essentially done... we don't have our certificate of occupancy yet. It failed final inspection for the second time today, but only with a few minor things that should be fixed by tomorrow. Planning on moving in this weekend. If it doesn't pass inspection before that I don't know what we'll do.

I feel like the universe is sending you a sign not to move into this house tbh. Its probably going to end up being haunted or something, perhaps by goblins.

Re: New house
You have no idea. Found out a few hours ago that due to a weird manufacturing glitch, our hot tub cover is missing the normal safety label that’s on all covers. The specific cover model is certified by the safety agency, it’s just missing that label. Inspector is coming tomorrow morning and warning us that we will fail again if the label isn’t there. Been scrambling on the phone and online to see how we can deal with this. The store we bought it from is scrambling also, but they are stuck until morning. May be able to get us a replacement in the morning, but quite possibly not before inspector shows up.
Re: New house
Update, probably the last one. The night I made that last comment, the inspector must have been visited by 3 ghosts during the night, because the next day he said he'd pass us as long as we were working on replacing the hot tub cover. Got it all passed, and started moving in 2 days later. Been moving just about non-stop for the past 9 days now. Will be a few more weeks until we actually have everything out of the old place.
