Started the year with 10 rewatches and only 4 new viewings.
1. Days of Heaven (1978; Terrence Malick) 10/10
Decided to start the year with one of my two favourite films of all time.
2. Yesterday (2019; Danny Boyle) 7/10
Some interesting ideas and a very charming and heartwarming film overall. Lily James was wonderful in this.
3. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013; Peter Jackson) 8.5/10
A wonderful adventure film with many fun set-pieces and action scenes. Really love this.
4. Labyrinth (1986; Jim Henson) 8/10
Always love Jennifer Connelly and this is just a wonderful and imaginative film. Great stuff.
5. The Vertical Ray of the Sun (2000; Anh Hung Tran) 8/10
A Vietnamese art film with a really calming, relaxing tone and direction from this guy. It was quite visually lush IMO.
6. Chinatown (1974; Roman Polanski) 10/10
Loved the screenplay, Polanski's direction and performances from Jack Nicholson and John Huston. Such a great classic film.
7. Far from the Madding Crowd (1967; John Schlesinger) 7.5/10
Turned out to be a good period piece with some wonderful cinematography, wonderful landscapes.
8. Badlands (1973; Terrence Malick) 10/10
This landmark film is definitely my favourite debut film of all time. It is incredibly beautiful and poetic. Loved Martin Sheen in this.
9. Apocalypse Now Theatrical (1979; Francis Ford Coppola) 10/10
All the best parts of the film are in this version.
10. Apocalypse Now Redux (1979; Francis Ford Coppola) 10/10
I liked the additional scenes, especially the French plantation sequence.
11. Prey (2022; Dan Trachtenberg) 7/10
It definitely delivered some really nice cinematography and action sequences.
12. Predator: Badlands (2025; Dan Trachtenberg) 8/10
Interesting film where the Predator is the protagonist. Just a great action film with stunning visuals.
13. Schindler's List (1993; Steven Spielberg) 10/10
This is definitely by far my favourite Spielberg film. Really loved the black & white cinematography and camerawork.
14. Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014; Frank Miller, Robert Rodriguez) 8/10
This is sort of great and underrated. Just a fun, entertaining, cool, sexy film. Eva Green was very beautiful in this one.
I also saw some old(ish) Amanda Seyfried films today. She is so damn beautiful. I'll post about them tomorrow.
Lyndon in 2026
Re: Lyndon in 2026
Make sure to check out Trachtenberg’s Predator: Killer of Killers too if you haven’t yet, its quite good.

Re: Lyndon in 2026
Chinatown made it to my top 10 when I saw it a couple years ago.
As much as I love Labyrinth, I didn't like Connelly in it; though that's probably more about how her character was written than her acting.
I like Yesterday more than most people seem to; my favorite Boyle movie probably.
Recently added the Hobbit movies to my collection; I've still never seen the third. Was not a big fan of the first 2.

Re: Lyndon in 2026
Thanks for the recommendation, Rax. I'll put it on my watchlist and I'm looking forward to seeing it.
As promised yesterday:
15. Red Riding Hood (2011; Catherine Hardwicke) 7/10
Here we have another film which tries to be several things at once. It's a whodunit where you are tying to guess who the werewolf is, it's a critique of witch-hunting done under the pretense of religion, it's a romance film. Amanda was stunningly and breathtakingly beautiful in the film.
16. In Time (2011; Andrew Niccol) 8/10
I really liked this sci-fi thriller. Premise: In a future where people stop aging at 25, but are engineered to live only one more year, having the means to buy your way out of the situation is a shot at immortal youth. In other words, this film envisions a future where time is the currency. Amanda and Justin Timberlake were hot as this 'Bonnie & Clyde'-esque couple.
17. Lovelace (2013; Rob Epstein, Jeffrey Friedman) 7/10
Amanda plays Linda Lovelace, a girl who starred in that porn film 'Deep Throat'. I only saw a couple of films about porn industry in my life, so this was rather interesting I guess. It was a solid film and Amanda was very good in it.
