I looked it up and saw it was a red-winged blackbird. The site said it was one of the most abundant species in North America, so I wondered why I had yet to see it. Then I saw images of the females and immature males. Those were plentiful on my backyard.
Just seems weird I've never seen a mature male until now (though to you gals, it probably doesn't seem weird
