I'm not a big fan of heights.

Why I agreed to go rock climbing, I have no idea [laugh].

Seriously though...

One of my meetup groups went to one of those indoor rock climbing places. We did 3 lessons for $20. It was our first time. We used the shorter wall, but our arms were dead by then, particularly the forearms. We all had a lot of fun, though a little scary when I slipped a couple of times. Adrenaline was definitely pumping.

But I enjoyed myself immensely (despite my issue with heights).

I hate heights as well, I used to do a bit of rock climbing a few years ago, haven't been for a while though. Was never much good. I'm find with bouldering, but I get nervous on full size walls, I'll tend to just freeze and ask to be lowered down.

I did ask to be let down once, but not for a lack of trying/freezing. I made it to the top on two separate paths, but they were all on the shorter side.

The rock climbing definitely forces you to think outside the box spatially and use muscles you didn't know you had. My forearms are really feeling it.

The instructor said women tend to be better, and I can see that since they tend to be more flexible, which is important for those awkward positions.

I've always been afraid of heights, but before my mid 20's when I started putting on weight, I was an avid climber. I'd climb trees, walls, fences, and light posts so quickly and easily I'd put Spider-Man to shame. I guess cuz I had like 0 body fat, so it was very easy for me to lift my entire weight with just my arms.

I've learned my fear isn't the altitude itself. After all, I love roller coasters, airplanes, & drop towers. It's definitely the fall. So I was surprised at how easy I was able to overcome that thought, though at times it did creep through.

I'm not very comfortable with heights at all but used to love rock climbing (indoor - not the real deal) - I think, because you are harnessed and I'd fallen enuff to know that you aren't in any real danger that it got me over the fear.
I also paraglided for a few years back in my 20's ..by way of a direct effort to combat my fears head on - and man, that was a baptism of fire that wasn't entirely successful.

I'm terrified of airplanes and roller coasters, and I'll be damned if you ever catch me on a drop tower.

And to hang gliding, sky diving, and bungee jumping, I say fuck no.

Love heights; that feeling of uncertainty (vertigo?)/unbalance feels amazing. Rock climbing is fun. Good that you enjoyed it. [yes]
The agonies which are have their origin in the ecstasies which might have been.
