and kind of lame?

Or is it because 99% of my facebook friends are people that I hate?

I think the fact that 99% of your Facebook friends are people that you hate explains a lot of things. [biggrin]

It says I'm a person full of hate that likes to dislike people. [none]

Anything not face to face I find somewhat impersonal, so facebook, telephone, etc... I do find them useful in keeping in touch... but i'm a loner so face to face is really the only thing that brings me out of my shell

It's communication .. It can be as personal or impersonal as you like. I'm not sure why writing something down changes the content or intimacy of the message.

For myself, I like PM'ing people via facebook in certain circumstances and direct conversation in others.. but I often find that face to face meetings can be just as shallow or as impersonal as any other.

Well that's because I only do face to face with people that matter. If my job was meeting up with people and talk to them while I pretend I listen, would be a nightmare for me. I tend to skip things when I know people I don't like will be there. But I guess it is because I only use facebook to talk to people when I need stuff and I use phone texting with people I like to chat with.

I thought about this because Cameron wants to ban whatsapp in the UK and using facebook as an alternative will be sooo lame for me. It doesn't feel right.

I love PMing people because I am socially weird and also routinely unable to leave the house. I'm a lot more honest in messages than I feel comfortable being in person so you probably actually get a deeper and more personal interaction with me online.

I'm more open via chat than face to face depending on how comfortable I feel with you.

Well - You'd probably hate my job then given most of it is interacting with meeting up with people and discussing their issues.. I like it cos I like problem solving and being professionally useful and all that jazz.

Socially, I'm not naturally gregarious but have also had enuff experience with that sort of thing to know that I'm pretty good at handling myself (in much the same way as I'd be a good runner if I was being chased by lions all the time) so, while it causes me an amount of anxiety, I also know that all that angst is irrational and so I just push thru. When it comes to messaging people via PM, I generally tend to find that it gives you time to think about a response rather than just respond in absolute real time which both makes me more comfortable and improves the quality of my communication, so, It has its place.

Why on earth are they trying to ban Whatsapp? .. that sounds weird!

They're trying to ban any encrypted messaging. Basically David Cameron wants to be able to read ANY messages people are sending to each other for anti-terror reasons. Whatsapp is encrypted like that. And I doubt they'll want to stop encrypting messages.

David Cameron doesn't want to read what I write in private messages because a lot of it is how much I fucking hate David Cameron.

I beg to differ. As a member of the British ruling classes the only way David Cameron can achieve orgasm is to pop a tangerine in his mouth, have someone choke him and then furiously masturbate while reading the things people say about him. It explains why they do so many awful things.
