Alan Rickman also died

Also at 69, also of cancer. Can we, like, stop having all of our best and most talented people die, 2016? Because that would be great.
And on a selfish note, given that my dad is in his 60s and is starting chemo on Monday, I would like to stop having conversations with him that go 'Did you hear X died?' 'Yes. What did he die of?' 'Cancer'. '... How old was he?' 'In his late sixties' '*awkward silence*'.

Holy crap... trying to figure out how to phrase this without sounding disrespectful to Bowie, but as a movie-lover, this one actually affects me. Alan Rickman being in a movie has always made that movie more enjoyable. I've always looked forward to seeing his performances.

Also, I'm annoyed at Harry Potter right now. Rickman was in so many different amazing roles, but all I see in any news article anywhere is a picture of Snape and a title about how "Alan Rickman, Snape from Harry Potter, dies at 69". Ok sure, he played Snape in more movies than he played any other character, of course. But still. I just want to see an article like "Alan Rickman, the VOICE OF GOD, dies at 69".

I find myself weirdly more distressed by Bowie's death (possibly even more upset than when my beloved Terry Pratchett died, because at least we all knew TP was terminally ill) and I can't figure it out. I think I just never really thought that David Bowie was mortal and I felt deeply that we'd lost something incredibly precious and beautiful and strange. I am gutted over Alan Rickman though, I was convinced he'd live to such a ripe old age and he and his wife were together *so* long. It's heartbreaking.

This. I barely knew David Bowie. Alan Rickman, though... he was something special. This really sucks.

Last Alan Rickman movie I saw was 'Love Actually' this past Christmas. It occurred that he comes across as very feminine/motherly in that movie.

As is normally the case when a celebrity dies, I feel nothing. Azzy would be proud.
No disrespect, of course. I'm sure Alan Rickman and David Bowie were good people who didn't deserve to die of cancer.

I dunno, I'm starting to hear some things about how Bowie raped some girls or something....

I dunno, I'm starting to hear some things about how Bowie raped some girls or something....
I googled it - there seem to be two incidents:
1) Cases of statutory rape due to the girls being under 18, though they claimed it was consensual on their part: "To this day, Mattix claims that her decision to lose her virginity to the pop icon was “consensual," Mattix told Thrillist. While Mattix is entitled to believe this, the age of consent would have made the alleged sexual encounter illegal."
A first hand account from Mattix:
https://www.thrillist.com/entertainment ... avid-bowie
and
2) "In 1987, 30-year-old Wanda Nichols accused Bowie of forcing himself on her after a concert tour stopover in Dallas." The allegations were cleared, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

But I didn't know much about Bowie - never really watched or listened to his stuff - and I'm definitely more affected by Alan Rickman's death, albeit not that much because, eh, he's lived a long and fruitful life.
I'm also curious to know how WBC are managing their picketing schedules in light of this.

Are WBC even doing stuff now that Freddy's died? I haven't heard much from them recently.

Yep, they announced they were going to picket Bowie's funeral.
Their Twitter is still going strong:

...which you can click on if you want to see tweets celebrating Alan Rickman's death. I like how they're in a bit of frenzy to cover both him and Bowie.
actually, their Twitter isn't even distressing because it's so wildly over the top. They've become a parody of themselves.
