Uniqlo music mystery, solved!

I finally plucked up the courage to ask one of the staff about the songs they play in-store. She said she had no idea, and lots of other people (and staff) had also been asking about the music, but it came on a playlist from Marketing and they didn't know any more than that.

So I went to google Uniqlo music playlists. It turns out that Uniqlo buys music composed exclusively for them. Japan gets theirs from USEN Music, while US/UK (and possibly other) stores use the services of Activaire, whose site says: "Our core services are design and deployment of background music and video for global brands."

So that's that, then. Though I'm unnerved at the idea that there exist songs today that can't just be downloaded or bought off the internet or listened to on Youtube, and which might not even have titles. It's not natural. I'm not used to this.
