I think the implication is that you're hooking up, using netflix as a pretense for getting the girl to the guy's house, so one wouldn't be in a relationship per se.

But why do you need a pretext to get someone into your home unless you're a sex criminal? Can't you just ask someone if they want to come over for the no-pants dance?
