wtf

(though at the risk of sounding like an SJW, the slight misogynist vibe of the piece bothers me. [none] e.g. I can't imagine the writer mocking how the only important thing is what a nice, kind, white man feels as he cries into his Starbucks coffee.)

Why not? I hear about "white male tears" all the time.

Is it because he called her a white privilege lasagna? [none]

Nah, that part was fine and just made me hungry for lasagna. It was this part:
But I'll take her word for it and picture a sad and sullen Wendy Bell at a Starbucks in Sewickley last week — teary-eyed, tense, and teetering on the edge of a panic attack — as a barista asks for her order and she replies “I…just. I…just. I just can't."
"I just can't" / "I can't even" often features in Reddit posts mocking how emotional teenage girls speak (the TumblrInAction subreddit sidebar features a tear-stricken creature weeping "I can't even" in front of a computer), so that's the immediate association I had. It was the only thing that bothered me though.

oh hey Wendy Bell removed her FB post and apologised:

"I have removed a post that I initially placed here on Monday. I sincerely apologize for that post about the Wilkinsburg mass shooting and the restaurant employee whom my husband and I encountered. I now understand that some of the words I chose were insensitive and could be viewed as racist. I regret offending anyone. I'm truly sorry."

'could be viewed as racist'. I have a relatively high threshold for racism and that post was totally racist. To her credit, she seemed truly sorry for offending people, and not just because she was attacked for it, but I don't think she actually understood what she did wrong.

When Joe paid the bill, I asked to see the manager. He came over to our table apprehensively and I told him that that young man was the best thing his restaurant had going. The manager beamed and agreed that his young employee was special. As the boys and we put on our coats and started walking out — I saw the manager put his arm around that child's shoulder and pat him on the back in congratulation. It will be some time before I forget the smile that beamed across that young worker's face — or the look in his eyes as we caught each other's gaze. I wonder how long it had been since someone told him he was special.
I lost it there.

I've never heard that the "I just can't" is used to mock women overly emotional? I don't necessarily doubt it, but this is the first time I've heard it.

This woman thinks that pity is somehow better than racism

Very often on the Internet (by which I mean reddit). The context is quite different in this article, though. I didn't get any sexism vibes from it at all.

Interesting, I've said this quite a bit, though normally when I feel overwhelmed by emotions (either positive or negative). I'll have to keep this in mind in the future.

Well, I say it quite often too. I don't care. Reddit is full of weirdos.

Speaking for wypipo i am very impressed when I see a young black man working a menial job (because that's all he can find) instead of out killing wypipo. Basically I'm saying if we can't own slaves we might as well keep them cleaning up after us for minimum wage. It's the next best thing!

Fair enough. I spend too much time on Reddit. I used to use the phrase fairly often too, but Reddit ruined it and now I just can't. [none]
