Basically what it says in the headline. Local zoo is offering redheads free entry on the 19th to help raise awareness of the plight of orang-utans. Many people see it as a good thing, a fair few people are complaining about it being insulting. Not entirely sure what to think there, but my first thought is they need to get over themselves???

Staff at the ticket booths will be issued with a special Twycross Zoo red-headed colour scale to check visitors are not trying to pull a fast one.
I demand to see this scale.

Is it only insulting because it's orang-utans, or would it also be insulting if it was a gathering to save the red squirrel, or foxes...or carrots
That scale just reminds me of this:

I think it's mainly insulting that gingers get a lot of flack and comparing them to orangutans is probably going to make some of them a bit peeved. I wouldn't be bothered if a zoo was like 'World Brown Bear Day, brunettes get in free!' because a) no one ever has a pop at brunettes, and b) AW YISS FREE ZOO DAY.

Maybe it's because redheads are an endangered species as well...
