And this article killed it. Killed it dead.

I don't even know what's going on anymore. The world is insane.

Lol. That comment section is a war zone.

This article is a result of our natural need to feel like "good" people. Supporting Clinton, while knowing Bill has been accused of rape and defended by Hillary, creates a lot of cognitive dissonance(especially for feminists - since there's the additional pressure of wanting to think of yourself as a "good feminist") - so they have to rationalize(which results in foot-in-mouth) to reclaim their sense of righteousness.

But, one does not need to make up bullshit rationalizations to support Clinton.

The trick is to not make your decision all about your sense of righteousness/feeling good about yourself. You can simply be honest and base your decisions on what you think is most practical.

It must take a large amount of rationalization for a supposed feminist to claim that raping someone doesn't necessarily make someone a bad feminist.

Or that voting for a woman who married a rapist and refuses to stand up for his victims is an act of feminism.

Yeah..and there's a lot of the "accidental rapist" kind of language of talked about before. I think rapists are all serial rapists. Once a victim comes forward, I always wonder how many others are out there. Consent is too straightforward of a thing to misunderstand. I don't think good people accidentally rape one time and regret their "mistake".

Though, I do understand that sometimes victims who are raped by close friends might need to rationalize the dissonance by concluding it was a one-time mistake/misunderstanding(I've seen at least two women write that they didn't know how to feel about their rape because it was a misunderstanding). So, that could be something going on here.

Didn't know mental gymnastics was an Olympic sport. The author might be taking home gold.

My opinion: Bill Clinton was the best president the USA had in the past 40 years.
Whether he was the best person to be president in the past 40 years is another matter.

And again my opinion: Voters in the USA should vote for the person they think will do a better job at being president.

And right after that, she says, This is very bad feminism. Like she's being sarcastic? Um, yes, yes, it is very bad feminism, you stupid bitch! I mean, what the fuck is even happening right now??

I read the 'very bad feminism' line as referring to the statement that 'rape is about power, not sex'.

I read it as acknowledging that it was politically incorrect(not in line with how one is supposed to practice feminism), but "honest".

Which might not be all wrong; I think at least some rape is about sex more than power.

It is my understanding of the concept of a "good man" that rape would not even occur to him as an option, but she did specify in her thought example that this imaginary "good man" rapist ultimately regretted having committed the act.

Still, the larger point is that we should give the accusations of rape the benefit of the doubt and not disbelieve her just because she's a right winger. That's what a real feminist would do.

Well, forcing someone to have sex can only be about abuse of power.

I was thinking more about the motivations. The act itself is abuse of power, but the reason for it might be sex more than power. E.g. chances are that asexual people are less likely to rape, despite being no less likely to wish to abuse power over another.

The sex/power distinction speaks to the idea that rapists are sexually aroused by violation itself.

Edit: Which undermines the whole "possible mixed signals" bs because the very fact that there is a lack of consent is what drives it. They all know what they are doing.
