FYI for everyone, Raxi is the first refugee I've invited from the Evangelion board. He's good peeps, despite his lacking a soul, which I discovered when he admitted his apathy towards Studio Ghibli.

It's like one of Geekdom's 10 Commandments: Thou Shalt Worship Ghibli. You're lucky I let you off without a public stoning.

You know I can't help but wonder if I wouldn't be quite so distasteful of Ghibli if it felt like the only anime a lot of cinephiles seemed to not immediately reject, if only in comparison to the stuff from more "disreputable" genres I tend to prefer.

I'd like to think I'm above such biases, but I know better.

That I can sympathize with. Still, I can't blame Ghibli for the ignorance and biases of cinephiles. At least SOME anime is appreciated, and that can always act as a door-opener that might widen the more Ghibli becomes entrenched in the canon and the more young cinephiles use it as a gateway into other anime.
