Have you thought about asking the moderator to do some actual moderating? I thought about signing up but as long as Ada, Erjen and Blade and a few others are allowed to post the things they do with zero consequences then I won't be taking part. I can point to at least a dozen posts by Ada that should have resulted in her account being permanently deleted already.

I haven't bothered, but I'm on the record as being rather entertained by the level of batshit crazy they bring to the boards. I don't understand avoiding IMDb2 when they were there on IMDb. I think more tightly moderated boards are fine for some things, like when you're in the mood for serious, civil discussions; but complete, un-moderated chaos has its appeal as a nice contrast, and I don't see the point of wanting IMDb2 to be just another example of the former type of board.

Lesser people should be controlled for their own good... and because it's just damn fun to treat people as objects.

Well...you're wrong. Ada should only be allowed to post with a board implemented signature that says "This person is an habitual liar and a bigot so remember this when replying." If she complains then she should be banned for a month.

So whilst I've always believed in "light touch" moderation, I also believe that if someone is causing shit loads of problems - whether that be by trolling, by being overtly racist/posting porn/whatever or by reporting endlessly when there are no causes - then they should be dealt with. The moderators are there to help make sure the rules of the forum are being adhered to not to settle petty squabbles or vendettas and if users think that they can play them to do that for them then they deserve to be sanctioned.

My biggest beef with the IMDb boards was the automated nature of their report feature. It allowed collective asshole groups with people like Blade and DT and AyeLewis to harass the shit out of people who were just trying to have normal conversations. It's what destroyed the boards, basically. Fuck if I'm going to play that game on a new forum with the same assholes. I hope they all die in a fire.

Frankly, I'm more concerned about the rampant reporting and chronic reporters than the actual content of the boards, which is more-or-less the same as the old IMDb. Admin said in that thread that only 1% or so of the reported posts actually deserved deletion. I agree with whomever said that the chronic "cry wolf" reporters are the ones that deserve the warnings and possible bans.

I don't like it.

I don't mind users joining here, but just random people coming and peeking and copying stuff makes it creepy. like being stalked.

If you know the name of the board it appears in a basic Google search. I got a new laptop recently and that's how I found it again.

Except for londonbird, I don't really trust any of the moderators there to do a good job (yet). There's only one place I post that's open to the public that I do, but I've been there longer than I've known anyone on this board.

I think if you search someone's username you can find a board, I search my name sometimes and an old french board i use to post on comes up in my searches

I just googled your name and this place didn't come up. Googling my name did not link to here either. I have suspicions as to who would have shown him the way to here.

If the pedo had no intentions of posting here then someone might want to ask him why he registered for this board but was deleted as soon as we figured out a pedo was trying to infiltrate our selective board.

To be fair - I don't really use facebook (I'm pretty sure I have a facebook account, but I don't remember the details) - but I'm choosing to feel excluded...

I'm friends with several people here on Facebook, but not all. It's true I interact with people a bit more there than here.

Also, I don't mind that others can find this board so long as we keep pedos or other douchebags out.

I understand feeling uncomfortable with people "spying" on this board and then talking about it elsewhere... but the fact is that we just know not to say anything in the public forums that they want to be kept private. And if other people feel like spending their time reading stuff and talking about it, fine for them. Making it not readable simply adds to the false impression that this is a selective group. There's a big difference between not allowing people who are simply joining to purposefully troll the place, and not being open to new members or most people who want to join.

I gave in and signed up. I noticed they actually had the testicular fortitude to suspend Ada for three days so maybe they'll do a fair job.

I know that the people who decided this probably aren't the same people that post on the religion board, but I still find it highly amusing considering how much of a big deal people like Marv and Vegas made out of us making this board private a couple of years ago.

For those of you don't/can't go there are really short version of events (and I'm bound to miss bits so don't hold that against me)...

Ada (who is going by the name afeena there) has been behaving in here usual manner - as "charming" as always, playing the victim, threatening to report people, claiming the moderators are biased against Christians, etc - and new ones for the new board tag the admins/moderators in threads to try to get them involved.

Another poster comes along and sets up under the name "Ada Lovelace" and she loses her shit. She claims that that's her name and that they've stolen her personal picture that she took herself. The name thing is kind of a reasonable thing but the mods do a reverse google search on the picture and discover that it was actually a picture she'd ripped off some website. But that doesn't stop her and she continues with the protestations of victimhood and generally acting liking a bitch.

So they give her a time out and bar her from the site for three days. (Which is when they blocked the pages to people who weren't signed in)

As I say - I'm simplifying things, I'm missing bits, I've probably got a few bits in slightly the wrong order, but that's the short version.

Oh Ada. Never change. I mean, you can't but also don't.

Thanks. I saw Ada's initial harassing of the Admins, but I was gone over the weekend and missed RFS going temp members-only and the Ada suspension.

She told about a hundred lies about different posters in the span of a few hours, including accusing the poster SuperDude of stalking her and attempting to kill her family. This ban is for ten days and she's be warned that the next time will be permanent. Meanwhile she's posting lies about what happened on another message board.

Looks like Ada has now received her third (and permanent) ban.

I posted in the Superdude thread about this, but I was essentially against the ban. Unlike puvo, I don't think everyone are "babies" for thinking differently, but I thought her great entertainment on days where I was simply browsing/reading IMDb rather than posting, and when posting I could pretty easily stay away from her when/if I wanted.
