Start this off by saying - I am a huge fan of good animated kids flicks but, oddly enuff wasn't all that interested in watching this from the shorts. For whatever reason the whole premise just didn't grab me and it just seemed like it was trying too hard to be cute with no substance.

Well, it was cute but also, much funnier/endearing than I thought it would be. Really really strong first act. The dialogue was witty - the animation was top notch and the characters were pretty engaging right off the bat. The first few scenes were actually some of the best.

Essentially, the premise is young mixed Asian boy genius spends his talents making robots for robot fights in order to scam unwitting contestants out of their ill gotten gains. Big brother (also robotics genius) is disappointed by the waste of talent and gets little brother interested in joining his crew at a university for gifted robotics types. Kid invents "amazing balls robot tech" which gets stolen and the adventure starts.

Unusual in that it features minorities in lead roles reasonably heavily and also sympathetically to a point. Its a kids film so the messaging isn't all that heavy altho there is quite a lot of emotional/adult content in there as well.

if you're a fan of the genre - I'd recommend it enormously - solid 8/10


In other news - made it thru the first season of "The walking dead" .. not bad so far, not amazing balls but entertaining enuff .. watched the first two episodes of the second series. Lori seems to be becoming a bit more relatable in a way with occasional moments of outright bitch .. Shanes rapidly becoming an arse .. expect to see Lori's decline into full blown beatch soon

I have no doubt it is.. Right now, I'm after sommat "brainless" for want of a different word. Plus, the walking deads got so much press that I feel culturally obliged getting on board with it.

It's kinda like true blood, doesn't have to be all that "solid" as long as its fun and paced well - it does cliff hanger endings pretty well and sometimes, I just feel like watching fun junk.

Pretty much agree - the movie got underway with terrific dialogue and a good sense of humour and then kinda turned into an action animated feature like a whole bunch of others and I would be inclined to be more critical of this but - even its more generic parts will still very good. If it had sustained/distinguished itself through-out from the first act I would have happily put it right up there with "The incredibles" which for me, is the gold standard by which all other animated films should be judged.

Yup - almost missed it but clicked thru the credits hoping for a little extra and found that - that was the only time I actually realised it was a marvel comic.

I find it to be his best cameo yet.

I knew it was extremely loosely based on a Marvel comic but I couldn't help laughing at the thought "Damn, even in the most obscure works, Led has to get his cameo in".
