I found important messages in mine, some dating back to November 2014.

Suffice to say I made myself seem like an annoying idiot and probably pissed off an organisation whom I really don't want to piss off, because the representative's messages had all ended up in there and I wasn't aware and kept asking on the group page why no one was responding; until they finally emailed me sounding exasperated and asking if I didn't get their messages on Facebook. Then I remembered that the Other inbox is a thing, and sure enough their responses were there, rather than in comments to my posts as I had expected. and I feel really bad right now and they probably hate me and I hope to prevent any more people from suffering a similar fate. :(

Srsly check your Other inbox (via desktop; it doesn't even appear on the phone, which is how I do most of my internetting). And damn you, facebook.

And after that, delete your facebook and never, ever go on ever again.

I rarely go on as it is, but my work includes social media marketing, and it looks bad enough that I only have 92 friends.

This. I don't spend much time on Facebook, and when I do it's typically on my iPad, but I've never heard of an other inbox.

When I click messages from my newsfeed, it takes me to that page

Click "messages" on the left side of the page and it should take you to your inbox where it will show both Inbox and Other just like the screencap shows.

Yeah I used to have this problem. A couple years ago I checked my "other", and found an old message from a very old friend whom I'd actually been trying to track down without any luck. But I haven't gotten any new messages in there in the last 2 years; I dunno what changed.

well - whaddya know, I had no idea there was an "Other" inbox - just checked mine and had like .. 20 messages in there. 4 were apologising for interrupting my busy schedule and informing me that I had money owing to me from a deceased relative in Ghana .. so, should get right on that.

One from from Bill Bryson - in 2010 - but it won't open for some reason so - no idea what that was all about.

A couple were just odd conversation fragments from people I don't know..

What's this box even for? .. like - what gets put into that?..I'd say it was messages from people not on your friends list but there was one message in there from a person who is on my friends list - so that's weird.

For Muriel - you have to access facebook from a browser - not an app. I normally access from an app either on my phone or my surface tablet so, have never ever seen this before!

That is the weirdest thing I had messages from 2010 in it. lol from no one i know.

It is for messages from people not on your friends list so if you had a message from a friends list person it could have been before you added them.

No kidding...I had a few, one guy sent me photos of some naked chick.

I also had a message from some weird Scottish dude asking to be friends from back in 2013. I of course deleted that immediately. There's no way I'd want to be friends with a Scot.

I found a message from my psycho ex-friend's slightly psycho ex-girlfriend, passive-aggressively complaining that I hadn't accepted her friend request and calling me the most sarcastic person she had ever met. I don't know if she meant it as a compliment but I took it that way anyway.

How did sarcastic even make sense in that message?

"Well, c you around most sarcastic person Ive ever met! ;D x"

She used four smileys in as many sentences. That shit ain't right.

I'm glad I saw this. I found a message from a distant (literally) relative from the previous year.
