Hobbit 5 Armies - good god...this was boring. He really dropped the ball on this whole thing. I LOVED LOTR but this was just boring, can't even recall any part of it in detail because I just didn't care while watching it. This really makes me sad. I think if maybe he had stuck with 2 films maybe it would have been better but I just don't know. There didn't seem to be much character development and they flashed from scene to scene with no transition set up and that last part with Thorin and his weird ass trip in the great hall was just really stupid.
Exodus: Gods and Kings - Meh, it was better than Hobbit but I couldn't get away from the fact that the actors were so not ancient Hebrew/Egyptian people. I think I would have liked it more if they had used actors of similar decent of the actual people involved in that story. I also think they should have had a lot more backstory on Moses and Ramseys like during their childhood. They went from the two getting along brilliantly to Ramseys wanting to kill Moses with zero cause. I think it was more of an awe and gasp type movie devoted to CGI rather than any real depth.
The Shield - On season 2 and I like it. The racism and obvious white privilege annoys me at times and also the ridiculous attempts at addressing such issues but the rest of it makes up for this lapse. I had no idea Boyd was in this series also (Boyd from Justified). Different character completely so it was a little hard to reconcile that at first but it's sinking in finally.
Day of the Siege - oh good grief what an awful Christian propaganda film! I swear it was like Kurt Cameron directed it or something! Praise God and death to those heathen muslims! blah blah blah

Yeah....I was disappointed with Five Armies. I didn't hate it, I just found it unremarkable (especially when compared to the original LotR triology, and even Desolation of Smaug). It seemed like there was a lot of filler. I will say, the part where Thorin falls into the gold lake...thing was just cringe-worthy bad.

Ah yes, Ramseys, the well know Egyptian leader.

Yeah - watched this over the weekend along with Birdman (very good) - this was awful.
The whole race of the principal cast was a distraction - I get it in principal, big budget movie means bums on seats and all that jazz, but apart from Sigourney and Bale, most of the other actors were relatively unknown Australian actors that wouldn't put bums on seats at all so .. why?
It just seemed to be a throw back to the old golden days of Hollywood where every actor had to be white and in make-up to look like whatever nationality they were trying to portray but now, it just comes over as stupid.
Even so - the movie was terrible. It didn't seem to know what actual story it was telling with mixing natural disasters in with God's godly hand. Was it a Christian propaganda piece or was it an attempt at demystifying the dogma? .. In the end it came over as a non-coherent hodge podge of half arsed ideas set to some terrific CGI.
And - I really don't like Christian Bale so, there's that.

This is the only objection to BoFA on this thread that I will accept because I did not need to find out that Thorin's true nemesis is really badly animated CGI gold.

Don't get me wrong - I still liked it, but it just wasn't on par with the rest of the Middle Earth series (Fellowship remains my favorite, particularly the Extended Edition).

I'm sorry Aellymae. I thought long and hard as to whether I'd post my comments on the movie knowing full well I'd lose your friendship forever...but I had to. My integrity made me.
Don't worry, I grounded my integrity for a whole month so this will not happen again...in the next month.

I am more annoyed by these unnecessary apostrophes than the content of the sentence

Yeah - I dunno what it is about Bale that gets on my tits. Used to like him enuff although I can't say as he's ever really rated in my books. He's a good actor and all that but, for whatever reason, he just pisses me off.
There's plenty of movies he's been in that I liked - All the new Nolan Batman's, the Machinist, American Hustle, American Psycho .. but its kinda the same thing I get with Tom Cruise in so much as I just don't like him cos they both come over as dickwads for different reasons.
Probably had something to do with the tantrum he went on when filming "Terminator Salvation" .. and didn't help that he had this major "I'm an artist" meltdown while filming a movie that was just pure shite.

This post would have been perfect if you had said "FUCK! WHAT THE FUCK IS IT WITH YOU?"
It was fucking distracting.
OHH GOOOD!

Christian Bale as an actor = outstanding, Christian Bale as a person = probably a prick.
