Heard this song playing in a mall and decided to google the lyrics because it sounded like some boyband (McFly, whom I listened to purely for the name ) and I wanted to check if I was right, only to realize that Google turned up nothing. NOTHING. And then I got extremely curious and it's driving me crazy, because I've definitely heard it around before and it's not some obscure song. Chorus lyrics I managed to catch:

Chances are that I misheard some of that, hence the Google searching failure. But now I just need to know what this bloody song is and why I can't find it by googling.

I probably have some of the lyrics wrong, which is the only possible explanation for this, other than the universe messing with my head.

Have you tried the Shazam app? If you hear it again it might be able to find out what it is. I tried the app with the recording but it didn't work.

But then I'd be some crazy person hanging around Uniqlo with my phone at the ready, waiting for a song to play.

I'm just utterly baffled that Google isn't turning up anything. I have never had this happen with a song before, even fairly obscure ones, and this one can't be obscure because it was playing alongside famous catchy pop songs.

So what happened is, the song died before it got released so its spirit is now haunting the mall. That's why you can't find it on google, if you don't find it on google, then it doesn't exist. Simple.

Or... well.. could be one of those songs made specially to advertise something. Like one of my friends bought a cd from the radio and inside there was a song that was made for the station. So maybe it's a special store song, that's why NO ONE has it. Maybe ask the staff next time?

I doubt it's a store song. I know I've heard it before, possibly on Spotify or something (so I've been trying to play stuff from there in hopes it might come up and I can solve the mystery at last.)

Maybe this is all a conspiracy. some marketing tactic to remove all traces of the song from google, drive people crazy and ensure they will never forget it.

srsly, the only positive search result I found was from someone else asking what song it was, 6 years ago. So I guess that sort of narrows down the time period. But Google has never failed me before. I have a habit of randomly googling song lyrics to identify songs I hear, and this is the first time it's turned up nothing. This will bother me forever.

I played your recording to both SoundHound and Shazam, and they both failed to identify it.
Maybe it's a local band only known in your area.
Or maybe the recording quality was not good enough for my smartphone apps.

It's definitely not a local band. Very likely a recording quality issue, because the sound is crap.
