Is this supposed to be feminism?

So apparently this video is getting a lot of response:

The thing is, most of the negative response I've heard has been anti-feminist stuff, like "look at how stupid this feminist propaganda is!" Well I mean, it IS stupid. It's worse than that; it's a really horrific video that makes rape seem like it's no big deal. I'm sure that wasn't the intention... but still, is this actually supposed to be a feminist message? It doesn't sound feminist to me at all.

The message I get from that video is that violence towards women, slut-shaming, internalised-misogyny and objectification of women all contribute to rape culture, therefore contributing towards actual instances of rape. I seriously doubt that the narrator's point is to suggest that witnessing random acts of sexism is equivalent to experiencing a form of rape. Instead the 'I' refers to all women. Women get raped because women are treated poorly by society.

There are no arbiters as to what makes something a feminist message, but if my interpretation of the message is correct then it is most certainly a feminist one. I'm not sure whether it's a well expressed one. If I'm wrong about the message then it's just awful.

I'll have to watch it when not at work but I think I've seen it already and think the message was not all that clear if it's the one I'm thinking of. I'll watch it at home later.

I apologize. I was thinking it fell into the category of "these guys know where I stand, so a joke made among friends taken in that context will be ok." Sort of like how Brandon will make racist jokes in this context only. But obviously I was wrong; I'll be more thoughtful in the future.

It cracks me up when Gendo makes edgy jokes. It's like when your granddad starts rapping, or you hear a ten year old talking smack [biggrin]

it's badly expressed. You can point out that things are a fascet of rape culture without usinfg language that dimiminishes the experience sof real rape survivors.

Indeed. "I'm not sure whether it's a well expressed one" was my I'm-being-serious-now-and-have-trousers-on-and-everything way of saying "Bloody Nora that's badly expressed".

It was clearly more over the top than I'd realized. But you totally do make racist jokes, at least about Latinos. But there's context to it since we know that you aren't racist.

I actually decided to stop doing that. It was getting old, I have an even younger Latino now who isn't old enough to comprehend the idea of a joke and...Caly got on my case about it. [none]

I don't quite get it, because over here I don't feel that as racist. But I don't know how I'd feel about it if I lived in the wonderful culture of equity from the U.S. So to be honest, I don't know.

When the younger Latino is also black, it's best I be real careful with the jokes. She'll hear enough from assholes, she doesn't need to hear it from the guy who's supposed to be helping take care of her and have to try to figure out in her young mind exactly what is going on.

Is just that Michael asked me if it was racist and I didn't know what to tell him.

I'm going to go with Azz-hole's theory in that Gendo is nice and pure, therefore any attempt of a badass joke comes off as "stfu Gendo." [none]

There's nothing wrong with being nice and pure, Gendo. Jesus would approve.
