So Stark made a joke about reinstating prima not a if he lifted Thor's hammer.

Offensive rape joke? In-character doucheyness? Both?

And what about Black being barren. Sexism or no?

Does Disney have anything to do with AoU?

Disney owns the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so yes?

There were some negative connotations around Black Widow's revelation that she's barren, so I could certainly see the sexism there, although I didn't notice it at the time because I'm a privileged man. I don't think she called herself a monster cuz she's barren though, I think she called herself a monster cuz she's a trained assassin.

I also missed the rape culture aspect of Stark's comment (again, male privilege, you should try it sometime), but I can see that being offensive too. At the time I just thought it was a bizarre thing to say and it might be a reference that went over my head.

Ah, didn't know that.

The way I interpreted it was that she felt she was a monster because of her willingness to do that to herself in exchange for the life she would live. So not a monster for being barren, or a monster for being an assassin, but a monster for being willing to become barren in order to become an assassin.

I didn't miss that one. Maybe because I just watched Braveheart again a couple weeks ago. But it definitely registered as uncomfortable to me.

I knew what it meant because I remember it from Braveheart, but in my mind I was just like, "what a weird thing to say."

It's odd because to be honest, I think more people are reacting more to the barren thing but I think the prima nocte comment is more offensive.

I guess I thought the context of her being a mosnter wasn't about being barren, but that she had killed innocent people and her lack of emotional connections (including potential ones) made her more efficient at it.
