Women have clearly forgotten their proper place in society. Down with the matriarchy! It's the reason we have television advertisements for feminine hygiene products. Just show that shit during soap operas when men are at work and the women are home all day doing nothing. Men don't want to see that crap on televisions they bought and with electricity they pay for.

I'm not a misandryst. I like women on top.

Only problem with that illustration is it implies a zero sum situation - for women to gain equality, men have to suffer losses. The only thing men really need to lose is our assholery, but men will actually benefit by treating women as equals.

I get that you probably didn't intend it to be illustrated that way, and you just meant men and women are on slightly more equal footing now than they were in the past.

It's more a representation of men feelings regarding them having it harder than the previous generation and thinking feminism at least in part is to blame.

Um, excuse u, I have been given v serious reason to believe that misandry is a powerful and dangerous force in this world. Despite only making up a mere 51% of the population, a horrifying ONE THIRD of cabinet ministers are certified lady people:

For serious though, any minor concession towards female equality is shrieked about as signifying the end of men forever. There was a study that I can never remember the name of where approx 30% of the room was female and the men in the room rated the room as having a 50/50 gender split. So they increased the number to 50% women and the men rated the room as having significantly more women in it than men and then I rated 100% of these men as being total fucking babies.

If there's more women in the world does this mean I'm part of a minority? In which case stop oppressing me. [none]

I don't like being oppressed by women wielding Tom Hiddlestone gifs, I don't stand a chance.

Not sure if it was the same study or another, but they did that with TV shows - where shows considered to have equal gender representation actually had more men, while those with roughly equal gender mixes were considered to have overwhelmingly more women. Both men and women made similar judgements, though.

There's a similar phenomenon with the extras on movie and TV sets - something like only 30% of extras are women, but viewers generally don't notice that. A lot of it is also down to seeing male as 'default', such that for instance if a movie has a bunch of male extras just walking by in the background or having one-liner roles, people don't quite register them or count them towards the gender quota, vs if it were women.
