Sucky Sucky Sucky

I had picked up my parents dog two weeks ago as they were driving to Florida so they needed to leave earlier than us kids for our family vacation. I left that Sat with my kids best friend watching the dog. Came back a week later. Dog was great. Come Monday night, dog was not so great. He had some kind of seizure and then just laid there not moving all night long. Which was terrifying because this dog is a go go go dog, never stops even at 14. Rushed him to vet once they opened. They ran all sorts of tests, found a ruptured disk in his shoulder hence him not being able to move. They started treatments and anything else they could think of.
He died this morning.
It was much more than just a disk. He had brain lesions which eventually lead to a stroke and the seizure which is how the disk ruptured because of the muscle spasms. Vet said he may have felt some pain initially but once the disk ruptured he was paralyzed from neck down.
And I had to call my parents to tell them their dog died. They were in Nashville so they are getting back on the road and heading straight home. I have to pick up Riley at 4 from vet and bring him to my parents house so they can bury him. This is going to suck. Really bad. I loved that little dog and he died in my care. I know there was nothing I could have done, but that doesn't stop the guilt.
