Time Out New York's 100 Best Movies of All-Time

Can't say I much agree with the order, but this list was voted by a bunch of actors, which makes the results interesting. Here's who voted:

How many have you seen?

I've seen 78.

Re: Time Out New York's 100 Best Movies of All-Time
I've seen 20. I don't really have any desire to improve on that figure. About half of those 20 I considered fairly boring
Re: Time Out New York's 100 Best Movies of All-Time
I've seen... 9. Well, shit. Also, Love Actually? LOVE ACTUALLY? I like Love Actually and I still think it's a mediocre film. It's not in the 100 best films I've seen. It's a bunch of white straight people having relationships with uncomfortable gender politics.
EDIT: Oh hang on, Chiwetel Ejiofor is there but he gets like two lines and he's not even really in that storyline.

I've seen 25, only counting movies I watched in their entirety. There were a few more I tried watching but they were too shitty to finish.

The list of actors that are so fucking annoying I can't bring myself to watch a movie with them in the cast:
1) Hugh Grant
1) Hugh Grant
Re: Time Out New York's 100 Best Movies of All-Time
I used to loathe Hugh Grant but I warmed to him a lot after a) Bridget Jones' Diary, and b) my ex-boyfriend took me to see Music and Lyrics for Valentine's Day and I was weirdly charmed by Hugh Grant in it?

Jesus H. Christ, what did I just read? At least half of those movies are rated that high only because people have been told you're supposed to like them. Only one movie in the top 10 even deserves to be in the top 100 and that's To Kill a Mockingbird. Actors should never have opinions on anything, ever.

When Michael told me that Love Actually was one of the best movies of all time I got disappointed. It's probably the worst thing he has ever told me.
Re: Time Out New York's 100 Best Movies of All-Time
Agree with both the most previous comments ^^
Well, except for Taxi Driver and the two Godfathers. Those are all safely within the top 100.

It's not that bad.

It is bad. I think the only reason people like it is because there's boobs and a bunch of british likable actors. So that blinds people of seeing shit for what it really is.
I rather watch My Best Friend's Wedding. That one at least is fun.

Re: Time Out New York's 100 Best Movies of All-Time
I might be biased since I once had a special moment with a lady friend in her college apt after we watched Love Actually. It was around Christmas time and we were all alone on campus(a lot students had already gone home) cuddling in her bed. It was weirdly sweet/romantic, so I remember that movie fondly. But, I haven't seen it in years and it probably actually sucks.

To me it sounds you weren't paying attention to it in the first place.

Re: Time Out New York's 100 Best Movies of All-Time
I dunno, it just seems like every time I see Hugh Grant on the screen, which admittedly hasn't been very often, he's playing the same character, and that character is the most irritating fuck in the history of fuckery. I now just refuse to watch movies with him in them, and there's literally no one else for whom I have such a rule.
Re: Time Out New York's 100 Best Movies of All-Time
I'd seen 20 of them.

I'm pretty sure I never said it was that good. I said it was enjoyable.
Anyway I've seen 25 of those films all the way through.

Re: Time Out New York's 100 Best Movies of All-Time
I own 32 of them. Seen only a few more than that. And that website is terrible, to move to the next 10 in the list you have to go back to the top (most of the way, but not all the way) and then click twice to get to the right section. If it weren't for that I'd go back and count how many I've seen.
*Edit* Thanks to the 3rd link in the OP, I was able to check... I've seen 35; with a few that I own but haven't seen.

A whopping 15!
Out of the 15 I've seen Star Wars, Goonies, and Leon were the only ones I can remember liking.

I'm the only person I know who isn't in love with The Goonies.
I think it's one of those things that people saw when they were kids and it stuck with them, and I get that, I'm just not in that boat.

Correct. It's loved because people have fond memories of watching it as a kid. I saw it several years ago as an adult; I thought it was ok, but it didn't stick with me at all.sikax wrote:I'm the only person I know who isn't in love with The Goonies.

lol, Tootsie? I've seen 36, but there's probably 20-30 there that are on my "to watch" list. Still, that's probably the worst list I've seen
Re: Time Out New York's 100 Best Movies of All-Time
I counted 35 I've seen entirely, if memory serves.
But in my opinion, any list that claims to have "the top 100 best <whatever> of all time" is at best for amusement.

As usual, animation gets the shaft.
Re: Time Out New York's 100 Best Movies of All-Time
At least two of the actors polled put Inside Out in their top ten all-time list.

Tootsie...
This guy averaged the audience and critic scores from IMDB, Metacritic, Rotten Tomatoes and Letterboxd to create a list of the 1001 best films of all time. That's a bit more like it.

Certainly more in line with what one would expect.
I'm going to make a new thread asking for everyone's top ten films, and then will compile a wonderful The Pit's All-Time Movies List. Yes.
