I'm sceptical.
The human brain is capable of redundancy. Meaning: If a certain area does not do what it's supposed to do (because of brain damage), then other areas of the brain might take up the task.
And the brain isn't everything in the central nervous system.
So, a brain implant that might work for one subject might not work for another.
But then, this is true for any kind of medicine or treatment.

These sorts of things have been happening since at least the 50s. There's a long history of experimental evidence for their basic efficacy.
