So I'm watching a show

called Wentworth. And I just finished the first episode and holy. crap. One of the main characters looks exactly like a gender-flipped version of Lou Bloom from Nightcrawler. Like exactly. The eyes, the facial structure, the tics, the mannerisms, everything. Wow. It's uncanny. She's also my favorite character so far.

Anyway, that's all.

I don't have the energy for TV shows anymore that aren't called "True Detective".

It does intrigue me, though. Let me know if it ever gets put on Netflix.

It was advertised (to me) as a darker, more serious version of Orange is the New Black. I've only seen the first episode but it's ok so far. It's supposed to get better.

If DA's watching a TV show, it's probably on Netflix.

So I finished the fifth episode and I'm still waiting for the dark seriousness to show up. It's not bad so far but it's not great. It has only two interesting characters so far, unlike Orange is the New Black which at this time had around ten.

The fact that you like "Orange Is the New Black" is putting me off.

The first season was okay. The second season was a complete waste of time and was the worst season of anything I've ever watched. I haven't watched the third and never will.

"Netflix Original Programming" is a reliable signal for "this fucking blows, don't watch it"

Hey! Dragons: Race to the Edge is awesome. Except for the filler episodes. Filler episodes can rot in hell.

Sense8
Daredevil
House of Cards
Marco Polo
Most of their children's programming/shows inexplicably watched by grown men with a cartoon princess fetish

Yeah, you're wrong. The only ones that suck are the ones you like: Wet Hot American Summer and Orange is the New Black.

I've only had a chance to see Daredevil & Dragons. And kids' programming has gotten a lot better. Sure I had Batman, Gargoyles, Animaniacs, Pinky & the Brain, etc. But they were the exception. Disney afternoon had some good shows but it devolved fairly quickly in the mid/late 90s. One thing I have noticed is that there are a lot more shows, both in kids' and grown up programming, have continuity. Most shows in the 90's were all pretty much a series of stand alone episodes. Also, kids' shows like Gravity Falls & Star Wars Rebels & Dragons & Adventure Time are starting to explore more mature elements in story. These shows are growing up as the kids grow up and it pays off for both their core audience & adults.

And I'm secure in my manhood that I can talk about princesses. Especially ones that can kick ass. I will defend them as imperfect feminist role models if I must (except Aurora. Aurora can sleep for all eternity for all I care. But the good fairies are cool).

Every single one of those shows is terrible, and I literally just said I don't like Orange is the New Black. [roll] Learn to read.

Probably. I've never watched it, because I always figured it wouldn't be as good as the movie. And I'm not secure enough in my masculinity yet to be comfortable watching a kid show about dragons. [none]

It isn"t as good as the movie(s). But it's good for what it is, which is more than I can say for the other Netflix DreamWorks title: Puss In Boots. At least Dragons has some of its original cast.

So I just got done with the first season. I don't really recommend it. There are only two characters that are interesting and memorable, the pace is slow, the characters are often plot-dumb, and it really only gets intense in the last two episodes or so.

But I'm on the fifth episode of the second season, and so far it's miles better than the first. It's what I was expecting in the first place. It's still not amazing, but at least it finally got intense and somewhat unpredictable. If you just skip the first season and start there, you wouldn't miss much.

Wentworth is pretty popular here, what with it being a local production as well as a reboot of an enormously popular older series (Prisoner) .
I haven't watched it at all given I really didn't like Prisoner much and couldn't really find a reason to try to like it.

It's had good enuff reviews - may give it a go when I am all caught up with Suits
