Corbyn: Labour enters 10 years of opposition

The UK Labour party has just elected Jeremy Corbyn as their new leader. Whilst his hard line left wing policies will play well with the unions, with student radicals and with that demographic that's more interested political fantasies than the realities of the world or adding up a balance sheet, unfortunately there aren't enough of those out there to elect the party.

But it does prove that the Labour party are willing to vote for electoral suicide just to try to make some some sort of point.

Don't know much about that situation, but I did hear him give a really incredible speech about the refugee crisis that was definitely moving. So... that's something.

While it's interesting to see Labour going closer to their roots, they're simply not going to be electable. While Corbyn does have some good points, for example the previously mentioned attitude towards refugees, there's too many toxic issues with him. Admittedly some are overblown by the media, but his attitude to the Falklands will fuck him over when it comes to public opinion for example.

I only hope that the Lib Dems take this opportunity to rebuild themselves and become credible. They're unlikely to overtake Labour but they could certainly take votes from the Tories. Labour could have done much better than they did before if only they came up with a credible alternative to austerity. They couldn't. Their plan was basically 'We're not the Tories'. I mean, it's a nice plan but it has less substance than David Cameron.

He does have a few good points. But if Ed Milliband was easy for the Tory campaign machine to tear apart they're not even going to have to break a sweat making Corbyn look like the lunatic fringe. The only people he's going to appeal to are the hard liners that were always going to vote for Labour or the SNP anyway, and he'll drive away a huge chunk of all the undecided voters.

The one thing Corbyn won't do is offer a credible alternative to austerity. He'll offer fantasy economics and hope the people he's talking to can't do simple arithmetic.

But you raise a good point - with a slightly more left wing leader, this could be an opportunity for the Lib Dems to start to regain some ground.
