I recently heard that Macy Gray covered Karen Oh's 'Maps, and it's terrible.

Hurt should only ever be sang by Trent Reznor or Johnny Cash. Anyone else can fuck off.
And Leona Lewis also murdered Run. I'm not a Snow Patrol fan but their original version of Run is fantastic.

That was one of the worst things I've ever heard.Blade Azaezel wrote:Kanye "Thundercunt" West decides to attempt covering Bohemian Rhapsody. What a fucking moron:

I'm adding this to the list of breathy melismatic gospel-backed girl covers that strip every ounce of meaning or emotion from the original:Whitey wrote:

Well she is essentially a shitter Leona Lewis X Factor waste of space so it's understandable that she would do the same things.

I feel a pang in my side with virtually every Beatles cover I hear.

You should listen to Waylon's cover of Norwegian Wood. He made a horrible song almost bearable.

Please no more covers of Dolly Parton songs by cokeheads for the soundtracks of movies with Kevin Costner. 'Nuff said.

Re: Songs Musicians don't have any business covering
We could have a thread on great cover songs and list almost every one Waylon ever did. Hell, he covered Gold Dust Woman and Rhiannon and was every bit as good as Stevie Nicks singing her own songs. He made MacArthur Park and Chevy Van worth listening to and his Midnight Rider is the best version of the song you'll ever hear. On the previous board I linked to him performing that song on Johnny Cash's old variety show and even in the middle of a $1,000 a day coke habit it was perfection. It's no surprise he was great at covering every song Buddy Holly ever sang but he could go from Buddy Holly to Hank Williams or Ernest Tubb without missing a chord. Him and Willie covering Take It To The Limit was also pretty damn good but not quite as good as Meisner.

I've heard the "Take It to the Limit" cover but I didn't know he did Fleetwood Mac. That strikes me as funny. I shall give them a go.

Yeah, he was friends with Stevie Nicks. She originally wrote Leather and Lace for Waylon and Jessi for them to sing on their album of the same name. But there were some problems with the publishing rights, and Jessi didn't really like the song, so they released their album without a title track and Stevie ended up releasing the song herself with Don Henley. I've heard Waylon and Jessi sing it in concert but it really didn't fit Jessi's style.
