Yeah, I didn't know this is what you were talking about. I really like how they put a lot of focus on telling the history of the particular dynamic they're focusing on. Really puts things in perspective.
Like how knowing the history of the houses in GOT gives the story more depth and just makes sense of things. Things seem less arbitrary.

It's the main reason I loved Song of Ice and Fire. How GRR Martin managed to create a world so similar to this one. The books more since the characters are more subtle and smart.
And regarding to what she said about resistance, Marxism here is on the rise, during the protests there were a lot of signs saying "We need more blood type Arbenz" and there have been several times in facebook where I see photo albums of Guatemala during 50's, a lot people are looking at our short "socialist" era with nostalgia. I've read a few articles describing the situation like a pressure pot, that there is a LOT of pressure accumulating in what it is called the North Triangle (Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras) and if the U.S doesn't step up, or step back, it could lead to ugly things again. With Russia standing up against the U.S, and Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador somewhat resisting, it feels like an awakening of the pre-cold war era repeating itself.
Especially since my generation didn't live through the conflict, you have a new generation of people younger than 35 that isn't damaged by what the government and guerrilla did during the civil war. We are more vocal because we didn't experience all the ugly things our parents did during that time. So yeah, a lot of people down here are pissed.

Also this:
Watch from 21:00. Prof. Sassens explains what I've been saying for a long time, the situation of Africa and Latin America with the mining/hydro plants/imports/food expenses/all that shit.
In my opinion, global capitalism = genocide.
