Sooo I just saw Gone Girl

And what is wrong with you people?! This movie is a 7/10 AT BEST!

OK. The film promised me twists and turns so I decided to avoid the trailer and everything and go with it as blank as I could.
So... first hour of the movie was boring as hell because it was more than obvious that Ben Affleck didn't kill her. I would have enjoyed it better if they tried to make the whole "Ben Affleck is supposed to be guilty and we will remind you in EVERY SINGLE SCENE!" more subtle.
Also the dialogue in the beginning how they met felt, how they interacted, etc; felt wooden, rehearsed and unrealistic, and this part was actually really smart.

So the twist got revealed and she is alive! Imagine my shock! And then everything from the diaries made sense and was actually clever, the dialogues were rehearsed because they were supposed to be that way. SMART! So this part I actually liked, got interesting because we moved away from "Look how guilty Ben is! LOOK AT HIS GUILT! HAHA YOU ARE GOING TO BE SO SHOCK WHEN YOU FIND OUT HE'S NOT!" and we focused on Pike's crazy.

And then we meet Barney and we find out that everyone in this movie is a sick person. Reminds me of my society, actually. Everyone in this story is mentally sick! And Pike's character is incredibly exaggerated. As time progresses the story becomes more and more exaggerated to the point it becomes ridiculous.

So this movie only has ONE twist and it is that she gets away with it out of the incompetence, lack of empathy or interest of the world. At the very end. That's the real twist.

I know David Fincher is a good director, but honestly the one movie that stands out for me is Fight Club, which also was exaggerated but to the point it was awesome, this one.... sorry didn't work.

This movie reminded me of Side Effects, which didn't get as much attention maybe because it wasn't directed by David Fincher. So there's nothing new here people. CALM DOWN!

I gave it a 7.5. Did not like it very much. Everyone's got a hard-on for Rosamund Pike's performance, but she was acceptable at best.

Well this is probably the one movie where she has actually acted, in a challenging way. So maybe people are surprised she can?

If that's the case then I can't take those opinions seriously. I mean I don't care if you're some no-name nobody or if you're Meryl Streep. A good performance is a good performance.

MAN I AM THINKING ABOUT THIS MOVIE WAAAY MORE THAN I SHOULD:

Michael told me "She played a psychopath really well." and the thing is that.... no. But is not Pike's fault in this area but the script and possibly the source material. Had Pike played an actual psycho maybe we could have seen her perform spectacularly but in reality she played monotonous robot in the beginning and crazy bitch at the end. Don't understand where the over praise is coming from. But that's not to say she did not play well with what she had, only that what she had was shit.

I have been victim of a narcissists and the main key of the narcissists is that they can manipulate people really well, and here is where the movie falls flat, because considering what I've heard of the author is that he/she has a problem when it comes to female characters. And here is where people are making the case that this movie might be pushing some kind of misogynous agenda. Why? We never see the manipulation take place, we never hear Affleck's side of how he fell for it. What we see however for an HOUR is how men get victimized.

And what do we see about Pike's character before she reveals herself? Only her idealistic perfect and unrealistic portrayals of her past with him. Which did feel unrealistic if you don't think of them as journal entries fabrications. Honestly, who talks like that to a woman you just met? It just doesn't happen. I just couldn't connect with these people and let myself be manipulated by her, have her carry me as the audience to be shocked at how there are people like her in the world. Because her character doesn't do that, her character is nothing but monotonous bitch at first, crazy bitch at the end. Nothing more.

So this is wasted potential. Because instead of exploring a psychological disorder and make a good story out of it, even if the woman is the villain and the male is the victim, what it did is that they pushed male victimization. Not victimization from psychopaths, but MALE VICTIMIZATION. "Look how the media blame men so easily!" "Look how media believe women so easily!" "poor men!".

Yeah the whole thing was just pretty bland. Visuals, good. Music, good. A hint of creepiness, fine. But, meh to Pike and meh to the thing as a whole.
