People are funny

Post by Gendo »

Just witnessed a discussion on Facebook. A practicing lawyer was telling some guy that in a particular grand jury case, she felt that the prosecution put on a defense. The guy's reply?
Prosecutors don't put on a defense. A legal expert would know that.
The DEFENSE puts on a defense. Prosecutors PROSECUTE.

SMH.

We really need to reconsider the homicide laws in the U.S.

You can't hang a man for killing a woman who's trying to steal his horse.

I don't know, a man would have to explain it to me.

If you don't know, you can't afford it.

I think it's something about any man just naturally understanding things better than any woman because penis.

One of the worst cases I've seen recently was a random dude trying to lecture a Olympic-level cyclist on how to ride better. This was after she suffered a terrible crash while in first place, with a few minutes left in the race. And I saw the crash live, terrified that I might just have witnessed someone die on live television.

Number 4 reminds me of GI. Happy days. I was Googling to try and find something I saw recently where a dude told a woman to educate herself more on science and it turns out she has a PhD in astrophysics but I can't find it at the minute.

Re: the mansplaining list - at risk of mansplaining, I wouldn't include the one about insisting that the other person would enjoy something, mostly because my mom does that all the time to everyone, regardless of gender.

"Try this, it's delicious!"
"No thanks, I'm really full."
"It's very good, try it!"
"I don't want any."
"Here, I'll get you some..."

I get very uncomfortable when she does that with other people who in the end give in just to be polite. Once I suggested that my granddad did indeed mean no, given that he said it about three times, but she said he was just saying that to be polite and not seem greedy. I don't even know what she thinks an actual no would look like. And then I get anxiety feelings at the flagrant disregard for consent and 'no means yes' rhetoric.

Yeah, I've had lots of people do the "try this" thing to me, insisting even after I repeatedly decline, including my mom and my wife. It seems to be a pretty common ploy by people of all stripes. I don't understand why it's so important to people that I eat shit that I know I'm not gonna like, but it apparently is.
