So..... Boyhood

Well... I started watching Boyhood. And 2 hours into the movie I decided to check my watch and realized it has only passed 35 minutes. So I decided, no, I don't hate myself enough to watch this through. So I decided to watch Mockingjay instead, at least it has prettier people.

Yeah, for those curious... it's about a mom and her two children, a boy and a girl. I think they tried to film it in a way where you can see the story developed through the young boy's point of view, and as time passes, the children grow up, the mom gets married to her dick head teacher and the dad pops up once in a while, they used the same actors as time progresses and that would be cool to see except... nothing happens in this movie. Nothing happens. Nothing at all. You see the kid playing videogames, you see the sister annoying the kid, you see the mom picking the kid up from school..... That's essentially the first 40 minutes of the story. It really felt like 2 hours, I actually thought it was about dinner time and when I checked my phone I thought time was frozen and my neurons were in space tripping.

There was a part where it did get my interest and it was when the stepdad turned abusive, so I thought, "YES!!! ABUSE! SOMETHING'S HAPPENING!" But 5 minutes later the mom runs away with the children..... and more scenes of nothing all over again so by that point, I really didn't give a shit anymore. I wasn't invested enough to see if the mom rescues the other kids from the abusive dad, if the daughter uses a condom with Garret, if Ethan Hawke finally gets a job, if Patricia Arquette gets rid of the awful hair cut... you know, stuff normal people like to wonder about when they go see a movie.

Don't waste your time with this one. Sikax and DA were right. I should have listened, those are 40 minutes of my youth I will never get back.

One thing that did bother me from Arquette's character was how she left the other kids with the stepdad. If I have been living with my husband's children for several years and his kids called me mom, I would feel protective over them as well, there is NO way I would leave them with an abusive father. I know that technically that is kidnapping but at that point, I would have called their real mom and consider calling the police to press charges. Although I know that in Arquette's position that is something extremely hard to do and a lot of people decide not to do it, but come on, how could she leave them behind??? So sad!
