What are your phobias

Post by Whitey »

I know we've asked this before. But what are your really horrible squirming phobias.

Buttz's is eye touching. So naturally I told her all about when I had samples of an eye ulcer scraped off my eye with a needle. I don't think she appreciated it much. [none]

Ok the real story is: I was telling him I can't tie my shoe laces properly, since every time I do it a few minutes later they're untied. So later he started telling me a story about some eye accident I really wasn't paying any attention, because it's horrible. So he said "A great scenario would be to put you in a room full of pictures of eyes with needles on them and the only way you can get out is until you tie your shoes properly. We could televised this!"

[none] I'm an wonderful source of entertainment, apparently.

Get a room.

But to respond to the question, there's nothing specific that makes me like shit-my-pants-frozen-with-fear scared, though I do have a severe dislike of clowns and spiders due to a far too young childhood viewing of "It".

Large empty bodies of water, on account of a near-drowning when I was a kid

Also bees, on account of me being stung when I was a kid. I really really dislike bees and any weird flying things that can sting.

Used to be full of phobia's as a kid, which I think I inherited from my mother who came from a small island with no wildlife whatsoever to a land with an embarrassment of riches in not only wildlife, but the sort of wildlife that is ridiculously lethal so I think as a defence mechanism she just decided that everything was equally lethal.
Now, I'm left with a couple of hangovers but have weaned myself of being afraid of things in general . Hate spiders which, here is just good common sense given the big non lethal ones are huge and can give you a painful bite, and the smaller ones are almost always worryingly venomous.
So - spiders, and Sharks - which is still a bit irrational given its the kinda panic that comes on periodically when I'm just out in the sea and realise that there is volumes of water beneath me full of all sorts of activity that I can't see.

Afraid of heights. And also the eye thing. I think Gendo started a thread about his eyeball a while back and I couldn't read it.

I assure you when we finally get a room we will be far too busy to bother the board with such things. [none]

Clowns are always creepy. I only dislike dangerous spiders myself.

I think you should re-enact Lord of the Rings, and you should be Frodo. And should only do the part in Shelob's lair. [none]

I'm always a little uneasy on water if I start thinking about what could go wrong, and how I'd survive, though it's not a phobia for me.

I got stung about 7-8 times before I was 10 I think. I was scared of them for quite a while.

I think given that in Australia everything is trying to kill you a few phobias are sensible.

Heights is my big thing. I freeze when I'm up high sometimes, when I think about it. I have been rock climbing a number of times and sometimes I've beaten the fear, but othertimes I'll get 10 feet off the ground and want to come down.

Create a Saw-like dungeon for you all to escape after confronting your fears, naturally. Liszt will get an easy pass for reasons though.

Hmm. The only thing that makes me squirm for a second or two is a spider. But then I promptly either let it outside or kill it. Case closed.

Despite nearly drowning twice as a young child, I really really LOVE being out in vast bodies of water and/or climbing rocks over a ferocious ocean. The near-drowns had a counterintuitive effect on me.
The agonies which are have their origin in the ecstasies which might have been.
