I saw a flick, and its name was Mud

Post by Gendo »

So Mud was good. Great acting by both young boys and McConaughey. Good story, that kept you guessing about the character of Mud. Also had a very timeless feel to it... like the whole movie, I was trying to figure out when it took place. It seems like it could have been the 80s, or today. That's probably just because I don't know much about what life is like today in more rural areas.

One thing that bugged me just a little though is that it did seem like the movie could be seen to have a message of "women are whores and not to be trusted." I mean, there's basically 3 female characters in the entire movie, and all 3 of them are jerks to their significant others who lead them on and then just leave them. Though I suppose for 2 out of 3, the argument could be made that it's the man who was at fault, for thinking that there was was more to the relationship than there really was.

Loved Mud. I don't remember it well enough to comment on the women thing, though. I'll watch it tonight and come back to this.

I don't remember everything that well, but I remember early in the movie thinking it was sexist and misogynistic as fuck, and in the second half thinking, well, turns out they showed the women's side of things and it's not nearly as bad as I thought.

Great acting and a solid flick.
