Ghurkha war memorial

Post by Blade Azaezel »

So my town has a local Ghurkha regiment and is putting up a war memorial in our town park to commemorate all those who fought in the various wars we've started. The plinth has a motto which reads "It is better to die than be a coward." Christ, those Ghurkhas are hardcore.

Almost the only thing I know about Gurkhas is that you don't fuck with Gurkhas.

IIRC, once they draw their knives, they have to draw blood with them. So even when they take them out for polishing and whatnot, they have to cut themselves before they can put them back. I wouldn't fuck with them.

Man, that happened to someone in a book I read but that was because the sword was Woden's sword and it was given to him by a valkyrie and he was going to kill his half-brother and then he didn't and tried to put his sword away but it cut off his hand because it wanted blood and then somehow his hand eventually came back because magic and then he had the blood eagle performed on him but eventually came back because magic. What I am saying is that I think the Gurkhas might be magic.

They are most definitely magic. I could imagine them in a fantasy world as cutthroat soldiers invulnerable to pain, kinda like the Unsullied in GoT.

As Az says, they can't draw their knives without drawing blood.

I've met quite a lot, they're really nice guys, but you don't want to piss them off. There was in the news a few years ago, this story. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12854492
Fighting them off with the fucking tripod of the LMG....absolutely mental.

There was also a story which went round that when a unit of Ghurkas went out on exercise, there were another unit training, and one of them took the piss. The next morning the other unit woke up with lines draw across their throats. The Ghurkas had got in and out after basically proving they could have come in an slit their throats in their sleep. Of course, that could be completely made up, but they're awesome soldiers, if anyone can do it they can.
