That guy did not make Monsanto look good. I wonder if he still has a job.

The title of the video is misleading but the Monsanto rep set himself up so he deserved to be made to look like a fool. He wasn't offered a taste of GMO crops, he was offered glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto's Roundup herbicide. GMO crops don't contain glyphosate, they are genetically altered to be resistant to it so that the herbicide will kill the weeds and not harm the crops. Glyphosate breaks down quickly as it has a half-life of a few months under normal conditions. Trace amounts can be found on foods after six to twelve months but there has been no evidence that normal exposure to glyphosate is associated with any health risks in humans and quite a bit of evidence suggesting the opposite. It's a herbicide and only an idiot would drink the stuff pure so, like I said, the guy set himself up to look like a fool. There are legitimate reasons to hate Monsanto but based on the current evidence glyphosate and glyphosate resistant crops are not among these reasons.

The rep said that you could drink a quarter of glyphosate; he didn't mention GMO (except gold rice). So it wasn't very smart of him to say that you could drink a quarter of herbicide without side effects, and then refusing to do so.

I'm fairly certain that was all covered by my first sentence.

From what I've read; this guy is NOT a Monsanto lobbiest, and it's just another false Internet rumor that he is.

Well..the guy who posted the video is a disingenuous piece of garbage...so I was kinda hesitant to post it here. I'm not surprised to hear that the title is misleading and what not. I just thought the guy in the video deserved to be laughed at. He pulled a David Brent.

Well then, I had to take care of two lies at once.

I eat GMO products as well as the majority of the US population because it's pretty difficult to find food that hasn't been genetically altered in some way so all those crying and hand wringing that I see in the news should probably read up on what GMO is and it's history and the research done on GMO product...you might be surprised to learn this is not much research outside of Monsanto and all the "harmful" things associated with GMO product is the result of "theories", not evidence though...that doesn't mean that down the road research will indicate that GMO practices by companies like Monsanto are indeed harmful to humans and environment.

So that aside, the actual issue with Monsanto is one of corrupt political practices. They've had so many of their board members/employees in positions of power it's crazy. And they did that to manipulate laws that would benefit Monsanto to the extent of monopolization of seed production and distribution. I mean, they managed to insert a rather powerful piece of legislation into a "Spending Bill" that congress was voting on. It was in the most obscure place so most members didn't even know it was there. Crafty for sure.

You can read the provision on the H.R.933 spending bill about 78 pages in the 276 pages long bill. It's entirely terrifying what they managed to buy for themselves from congress.
