Racist act proves that racism doesn't exist

Ok 2 things here:

1. What this employee did seems pretty racist to me. First off, assuming that the kids were adopted. Surely they could have just had a black father, and gotten predominately black looks? And then treating them different because of the color of their skin, and because they were adopted. I mean, the mother obviously appreciated it, and that's great. I just feel like if it were me who had adopted children, I'd be pissed that someone makes a point out of the fact that they are adopted, a opposed to treating them like my biological children.

2. Ok, this is just the website being what it is, but wow at the stuff it stays about this. This instance is proof that racism isn't an issue in our country? Ugh.

*Edit* Oh so the father was there too, presumably also white. Even so, there's explanations other than adoption. Some that may be a very sensitive issue for that family.

You should try being a 40-something guy walking in Wal-Mart with a black female toddler in the Deep South. You're never quite what the assholes are thinking while staring, but it's probably not something good.

Ok... I don't get your objections here, the employee clearly stated she was also adopted and that was the motive for her gesture. Also the employee's race is never mentioned.

I think the issue is the assumption that the kids are adopted rather than being biological to one parent. Imagine if the store clerk assumed that the childrens' father was black but uninvolved with said children. Both are assumptions based on the kids' skin color.

Speaking of Racist acts unintended to be racist:

There was apparently some backlash when Lily James was in Japan for the premiere of "Shinderera". People thought she was making fun of Asian accents. Turns out, that is actually what "Cinderella" is called there. So due to people's preconceived notions on Asian accents (i.e. their racism), they lashed out against a nonexistent racist act.

The issue is 1) that the employee assumed the children were adopted based on the skin color and 2) that the employee treated the family different because they were adopted. I wouldn't want my adopted children to ever be thought of as different than biological children in any way, even if it's a positive thing, Also, the employee's race doesn't matter at all. Whether the employee is black or white wouldn't change my feelings on this.

I'm struggling to get negatively worked up about this story. The employee wasn't motivated by racism and I suspect would have done the same thing to another family that had adopted had they known about the adoption, it's just that race made knowing about the adoption a perfectly reasonable logical leap and the kids sounds like they were too young to realise that they were being "singled out" for any reason - be that race/adoption or anything else.

either assumptions (adopted or bio father) is based on the children's color. Depending on the interaction she witnessed, she could have rightly deduced they were adopted.

if the kids were calling the parents mom and dad both being toddlers that is telling.
