Obligatory "Movie I saw" post - Avengers "age of Ultron"
So - son's 17th was this week which coincided nicely with the local (global?) release of the latest Avengers instalment and decided that it would be a good opportunity to make a day out of it and take all the kids.. Cost of that decision - about $120 .. fuck I hate going to the theatre here.
Anyways - was it any good, yes it was.
It wasn't perfect and on reflection I guess I'd be willing to say that the story was probably more disjointed/complex/hurried than the original but the effects and humour were on the whole, better.
Paced in much the same way as the first, starts off fast with an enormous action sequence - team falls into disarray, little bit of "establishing who the enemy is and bit of back story on why we're all at where we are all at in term of our hero's" .. which I felt didn't always make a great deal of sense, unless I'd missed something in the previous Avengers and all the individual projects that feed into it, I was a bit confused, even despite some of the explanation as to why things were the way they were (for example - Shield being completely disbanded, the budding romance between Hulk and Romanov) nothing too distracting but it felt like "things were missed and things were added just to develop a story line rather than anything that felt organic or needed.
Anyways - it was much what I expected, good fun, great FX, big budget action sequences, nothing taxingly deep or life changing but good fare for all the family. Script could have been tighter in some way and certain key plot points just seemed to have happened with me sitting there wondering why the fuck they were doing that (one scene in particular has Thor taking a cave bath in lightening water that really just seemed to happen for ostensibly no reason than to get Chris Hemsworth wet and shirtless and resolve some sort of angst owing to some vision he has that also isn't really very well fleshed out)
But - overall it was what it was and what it was was jolly good fun. Watched it in 3d cos my projector at home doesn't have 3d so figured that was the only way I get to see it in that format, 3d was well done but didn't really make an enormous change to the experience.
I'm giving it 7.9/10

I think Marvel always releases their movies everywhere a week before they release them in the states.
Re: Obligatory "Movie I saw" post - Avengers "age of Ultron"
The important question to this is:
Is Tom Hiddleston in it?
I need to know this for reasons. ![none [none]](./images/smilies/none.gif)

7.9 sounds about right.
I admit I had a delayed reaction when Vision picks up Thor's hammer. It just happened so quick, it took me a moment to process.
You haven't seen Captain America: The Winter Soldier?
This is the drawback of a shared universe as it's now gotten to the point where the movies can't stand alone.
It's also why I never got into comics in general.

It's getting to the point where it'd just be easier to wait for the super deluxe massive fuck-off boxset that will almost inevitably be produced, with all the Marvel tv series and films crammed into one $1,000 set, so you can watch it chronologically and understand what the hell is going on ![none [none]](./images/smilies/none.gif)

I figured someone or something was gonna pick up Thor's hammer given how much time they invested in setting that up.. actually, I thought they were gonna go with black widow..Unvoiced_Apollo wrote:7.9 sounds about right.

And yup - I did see The Winter Soldier but don't know what you are referencing? .. Saw it a while back and so, probably forgot something that was set up and expanded on in this one if that's the reference.
Possibly a plan for the future. These sorts of movies are exactly the reason why I go to the flicks tho, love me some big screen effects and sound engineering .. plus the 3d usually adds something to the whole deal .. so, will watch them all at the flicks and then download and rewatch! It's getting to the point where it'd just be easier to wait for the super deluxe massive fuck-off boxset that will almost inevitably be produced, with all the Marvel tv series and films crammed into one $1,000 set, so you can watch it chronologically and understand what the hell is going on

I thought you were confused about SHIELD being disbanded, which is pretty much the plot of TWS.

Saw it today, and meh. Captain America 2 and Thor 2 were both better movies. 6 of 10. I thought Iron Man destroyed all his shit at the end of Iron Man3?

Because a guy with tons of money who built dozens of suits can't build more.

Sure he can, but they didn't explain why he would. I mean they made it seem like he destroyed them because he was done building shit like that, and then in this movie it was like Iron Man 3 never happened, unless I missed something.

I'd say it was just his catharsis (which is my admission that yeah, I'll admit I kind of noticed that too). I guess He built his suit and Iron Legion with Banner since the two worked on "Veronica" and likely the Hulkbuster attachments.BruceSmith78 wrote:Sure he can, but they didn't explain why he would. Had I not been watching Agents of Shield, I wouldn't know what it was that brought the Avengers back together.

Looks like we're going to have to start giving salmon shit they way the Avengers were giving Cap shit throughout Age of Ultron.

Re: Obligatory "Movie I saw" post - Avengers "age of Ultron"
The final scene shows Stark tossing his old arc reactor/electro magnet into the ocean post heart surgery, standing in the rubble of his old home. He then turns and finds a screwdriver in the grass, he grins and puts it in his pocket. He then gets in his car and drives off, revealing a trailer on which he is towing his old robotic helper arm, saying something along the lines of "you can take away my tricks and toys, but you can never take away one thing: I am Iron Man."BruceSmith78 wrote:Sure he can, but they didn't explain why he would. So, I think that destroying his suits was a gesture showing Pepper he'd be willing to give it all up for her, but in the end she probably comes around to realizing this is who he is.
...the only people for me are the mad ones...

(heat of battle)
Iron Man: Shit!
Captain America: LANGUAGE!
(a few moments of gameplanning)
Iron Man : Everyone is going to ignore the fact that Captain just said LANGUAGE!

Just saw it yesterday. It was, as I expected, crap.
I would explain why but I pretty much completely forgot everything that happened in it a few hours after I left the theater.

Why do you keep watching mainstream movies? Given your reactions to the majority of them, they don't seem to be for you.Derived Absurdity wrote:Just saw it yesterday. It was, as I expected, crap.

Not that I care that you don't like them, except that if I had the same tastes you did, I probably wouldn't be spending money on them.

Re: Obligatory "Movie I saw" post - Avengers "age of Ultron"
Age of Ultron came up at work today. I said I hadn't seen it and everyone was like 'OMG Steph, how could you have not seen it?!' like, maybe because you motherlovers all went to the cinema and didn't ask me. And then we all started discussing Captain America's butt. But dispassionately and entirely without underpants feelings.
WORDS IN THE HEART CANNOT BE TAKEN
