Mad Max: Fury Road
... is fucking AWESOME. Holy shit. If you haven't seen it, go see it. Now. This is what a good movie looks like. This is what it looks like when you put care and thought into a product, not the pointless meaningless crap Marvel keeps shitting out on an assembly line every year. Honestly it's probably the best action movie I've ever seen, no exaggeration, and that includes all the so-called "classics" I've seen. Because every other action movie I've seen has glaring flaws and problematic narrative choices, and this one doesn't have any. I really really hope this movie has a major impact on how blockbusters are made in the future.
Everything about it is great. The visuals are amazing, the action scenes are exciting and tense, the narrative is very tight, the world-building is phenomenal, the exposition is non-existent, the characters are colorful and real, the characterization is subtle and brilliant, and the themes and messages are really on-point. I also think it's one of the most feminist movies I've seen in a while, consciously subverting quite a lot of subtly sexist tropes that have been omnipresent in Hollywood for the past two decades at least. It really shines a big huge spotlight on just how shitty Hollywood is. Just... go see it.
Sigh. Now I'm depressed, because this movie is now going to be a constant reminder of how good "mainstream" movies can routinely be if the creators just had talent and passion for what they're making. With Marvel poisoning everything with its awful soulless bullshit all the damn time it's easy to forget.

I wanna see this, but it's my wife's turn to pick a movie and we're like 2-3 weeks from our spawn bursting out into the world, so who knows when I'll see it. ![sad [sad]](./images/smilies/sad.gif)

Well... I mean... I'm not outright saying watching this movie is more important than your wife and unborn child, but... I mean... I think you should be open to the possibility. ![hmm [hmm]](./images/smilies/hmm.gif)

This movie is also more important than preserving society. So that's no excuse!

1. We do have a couple of 4DX theaters here in America.Dr_Liszt wrote:I might see it then. In 4DX!!!!

2. Maybe if your country didn't spend money on frivolous things like attracting 4dX theaters in which the premium makes it likely impossible for most of the population to afford tickets, you wouldn't be stuck in the 3rd World.

The proper response is "You're just jelly because the premium on your 4DX theater is even higher because you'd have to fly out to L.A. to enjoy it".Dr_Liszt wrote:Point taken.

Didn't really have much interest in seeing this TBH - not sure why, I think I was kinda just expecting it to be a bit of a money grab to capitalize on the success of its previous instalments. Was also a little pissed that they chose not to film it here.
Good to hear that its not a disappointment tho - The original Mad Max was amazing, the second was terrible and the third was enjoyable enuff in a much more generic Hollywood way .. might try to get down and see it at some point.

How violent is this movie? I want to see it and maybe take my lady, but she doesn't do well with bloody, bone crushing violence.

I've found a loophole. I escaped from my mother's womb on May 26th, nearly 35 years ago, so as long as my son doesn't pull the same stunt before then, my wife has agreed to accompany me to watch this post-apocalyptic mayhem on Tuesday.

Yeah...wasn't that interested before, but I am now. Tom Hardy seems to be in interesting movies consistently.

All you said was Mad Max put more thought into it when compared to other action movies. I found it to be fairly standard, so unless you would care to elaborate on what exactly makes it stand out, what exactly it lacks in flaws that other action movies have, then Mad Max to me is a bunch of car chases in the desert.
That's not to say it wasn't enjoyable or undeserving of the praise, but it didn't seem like anything groundbreaking.

I should add...it's very worth seeing in 3-D.

I can't see in 3-D so stop with the bigotry already!

Seriously though, he's red-green color blind and 3-D gives him headaches.
Re: Mad Max: Fury Road
I saw it and loved it. Best action film I've seen in quite a while. Well acted, well written, looked gorgeous.
Also, I saw it in 2D and it looked just fine.

I saw this on Tuesday, and it was pretty great. Apparently the theater I went to has something called D Box now, which sounds a lot like your 4Dx shit except they don't throw water at you, and I'm told I should have seen this flick in the D Box. I had no idea.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road
It was indeed quite great. The action was impressive, and I really liked that Bane got his own spin-off movie. I came away from this with an insatiable lust for Zoe Kravitz. My God...
Anyway, yeah, 8.5 or so.
