Someone's sexuality means nearly nothing to me, but I enjoy a certain level of modesty. I don't necessarily want naked people running down the street. Now, this photo is nothing I would ever complain about (it's just a kid), but the general concept of adults running around in a Speed-o covered in glitter angers me a bit. And if I comment on it based on a desire for simple discretion then my comment will be interpreted as homophobic, which it is decisively not. Therefore, I'm hesitant to say anything too negative about certain very flamboyant people's appearance. Not even gay people; heterosexual people can be extremely undesirably and publicly lacking in any hint of decorum, and I hate them, too. Call me conservative, I guess, when it comes to appearance, but is a bit of decency too much to ask?

It's gay pride parade.

there is a lot of inmodesty in mermaid parade or the recent let's ride naked protest too.

i just hate people using this to show gay people as depraved horrible parents.

I can appreciate a parade as a closed event and you can do whatever. I'm talking about when there is no such event happening, just in daily life. I know, unrelated to your point, I'm just venting here.

Let us all be thankful that Pancake is not here. Seriously.

Naked or close to being naked doesn't bother me but 15 years ago it would have because I was raised to believe that nakedness was bad and people who showed too much skin were bad immoral people.

Took a long time to let go of those irrational beliefs.

If Caly were here she'd argue vehemently that we should abolish decency laws entirely, and I can't really think of a good argument to oppose her.

Someone should bring Caly here. She's the only Canadian I'm going to spare when the revolution comes.

Normally I'd agree with this thread, but added context - that kid in question was apparently doing a sexually suggestive dance, cheered on by the adult ongoers who were mostly gay men. And that makes me really uncomfortable, as it would be if it were a scantily-clad young girl dancing suggestively for a group of straight adult men cheering her on. The sexual orientation of the audience isn't the issue here: it's adults who should know better encouraging a kid who has no idea what effect they might be having on people. If it were an adult, then all power to him for owning his sexuality and all that. But this wasn't an adult.

EDIT: maybe that's victim blaming? idk. I definitely wouldn't consider it his fault if there were pedophiles in the audience secretly getting off to it. But I'd also rather they not be given the opportunity, and the whole thing is still kind of skeevy.

That said, anyone who used this as proof of teh gays turning innocent children gay is obviously wrong.

Kinda this but with a different slant. Personally, I don't give a frogs fat bum about the nakedness thing at all .. a kid walking around in shorts and no top is hardly a societal shocker, especially round these parts.
The sexual orientation of the parade - also doesn't bother me in the least .. and I'm just taking Anakins post for truth on this but .. suggestive dancing by kids does bother me, I mean there's "just fucking around cos I saw this on tellie twirking" suggestive dancing and then there is suggestive dancing in pubic that is being encouraged by a group of adults that should really know better.
So, if that's what happened then .. I'd be equally uncomfortable with an act that overtly sexualizes a kid .. That and those shorts .. no kid, boy or girl needs to be wearing short shorts given the entire point of short shorts is to show off your ass cheeks.

I didn't even notice how short those shorts are.

The people responsible for this need to be beat with a heavy metal object. Jesus Fucking Christ, there is tolerance and then there is absolute stupidity.
