I went to London on a school trip when I was 14 and had kind of a miserable time because I was suffering undiagnosed mental health problems and also I was very unhappy at school. I keep thinking I should go back and visit London and then I remember that it's loud and big and expensive and there are people and cars and no and stop and no thank you. Train prices are pretty shitty everywhere though. Like I don't even fucking want to go to Plymouth and you're charging me £13.50 for a return ticket? CAN I JUST LIVE

I live in one of the poorest parts of the UK, with one of the biggest disparities between wages and house prices in the country, and some of the lowest wages in general (something like 65% of the national average). My friends and I are like yeah, gonna be broke forever, gonna live with my parents forever, gonna die alone in a skip forever yeaaaaah. You'll be alright, average UK dentist wage is like £50,000 a year, aka twice the average wage where I live. And I'm disabled and can't work more than a few hours a week. And we have a Tory government who want to destroy the welfare state. Oh God. Oh God, I'm going to die. OH GOD

In London - pretty much everyone, you ever tried driving around London, you'd know why.

Having said that - I found the rail system to be fairly reasonably priced, obviously not so much if you are earning a third world wage but, if you are a local, it's pretty reasonable for the convenience and the reliability of the service.

Oh I knew it couldn't be right. I guess the prices I was given were the total in an amount of time. But they are still ridiculous though.

They said that the train rides would cost me 50 pounds. But didn't say in a day or week or month. So I don't know.

You need to stop working according to Guatemalan currency anyway. If you moved to the UK, you'd be getting paid in proper money and could afford things with it. Minimum wage over here is about £8 an hour I think. Getting around on the underground wouldn't cost that much.

The city centre is very expensive, but most people who live and work in London don't go out in the city centre that often. They'll live further out in London (or even outside London and commute in) and there are loads of "town centres" around London that you effectively go out in/go shopping in and so on.

For example, I used to live in Chiswick which is quite a reasonable part of London in of itself and it's handy for Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham - all of which are great for shopping and going out in if you want to go a bit further afield but don't want to go into the city centre and pay city centre prices.
