To change the subject for a moment, because I don't want to start another thread and I do what I want, where is phe de? The idiot accused me of a strawman fallacy, because he doesn't know what a strawman fallacy is, three days ago and never showed back up after I put him in his place. Handing somebody their ass is not near as much fun when they don't come back for more.

He does that extremely often if you haven't noticed. Almost every time someone calls him out on his shit in a thread he just immediately disappears. Sometimes he keeps posting in the same thread and just pretends the aforementioned calling out never happened.

I don't know about a genocide list, but usually when I stop replying to a thread it's because I feel I've said what I want to say on the subject; and further posts would just be a rehash of what I've already said.

But if you want to, I can explain my reasoning about the strawman fallacy later ( I'm at work right now).

Your reasoning is going to be bullshit because you're a fucking idiot. You intentionally skipped over the actual logical fallacies in every post Goz made so you could falsely accuse me of one because you're a fucking idiot. You have my approval to hang yourself from a flagpole because you're a fucking idiot. Have I mentioned you're a fucking idiot?

I'm sorry, I admittedly don't know a lot about the issue because I haven't studied it closely enough. But a quick glance at Wiki suggests that the "leave" vote was partly sold on the idea that it would increase the U.K.'s ability to negotiate its own trade deals, including with the U.S. but that the truth is it might actually weaken trade.

You should blame David Cameron. The fact that he's going to go down in history as a colossal failure of monumental proportions is probably the only good thing to come out of this. Along with the fact that everyone who blamed minorities for their own economic problems just voted to make themselves a whole lot poorer because they blamed minorities for their own economic problems.

Also, hi!

I do blame them. I spent a lot of time exhorting the young people of my acquaintance to get off their arses and actually vote and I don't know how many of them bothered. Even my dad, who is almost 67, was complaining about how baby boomers are all 'Fuck you, I got mine' and don't care about future generations.

For serious, I live in a part of the UK that is one of the poorest places in Europe, and which receives Objective 1 funding from the EU and all kinds of support - we've had over £1billion in EU funding over the years. And yet my county voted to Leave because they're all a bunch of scared old white people who thinks that our Tory government will look after them (they won't! THEY DON'T GIVE A SHIT. They come here on holiday and then fuck off and forget about us with our food banks and our deprivation and our failing schools!)

It's ridiculous. They voted in the Tories, who wasted no time in fucking over absolutely EVERYONE, then voted to leave the EU because they thought the Tories would be able to provide riches and jobs. These people are insane. I hate them all...and now they're calling for a vote of no confidence in Jeremy Corbyn, supposedly because he didn't campaign enough to remain. Does anyone really think our right wing tabloid press would give him any time of day if he had campaigned to the level these people wanted???

Seriously. I'm actually a bit shocked at the brazen selfishness of the 'baby boomer' generation, how willing they seem to be to completely fuck over everyone else just so they can get theirs. I always knew the older generation sucked, but I never realized how hard.

And fuck young people for not voting. Seriously. Not that I would ever cajole someone to vote, but I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about these people who actually think voting is important and that it makes a difference and never actually get off their ass to fucking do it. Bernie Sanders would have completely whooped Hillary's ass if all those young people who supported him by 80%+ actually bothered to fucking vote for him.

That article's very first sentence says "One thing we can all agree on is that democracy is wonderful, whatever your political views" right before showing us literally the very best reason for the exact opposite view that I have ever heard.

There's no nice way to phrase this but I have a cousin who is very, very stupid (sample: she's anti-immigration and opposed to British aid to developing countries - her boyfriend is an immigrant who is almost certainly from a developing country) and the fact that her vote is worth the same as mine is genuinely painful. Like, in principle, democracy and free speech are amazing and then a lot of stupid people start talking and I get really, really fascist really quickly.

My regular suburban upper-middle class family members are literally creationists and they teach their children the world is ten thousand year old. One of them has positive things to say about Trump. They made fun of the rioters during Baltimore. A neighbor of mine thinks Halloween is literally of the Devil and forbids his children from partaking in it.

The problem with democracy is it allows people to vote that you wouldn't allow to watch your dogs. You could literally have a ballot that says "Choose A or B. B is always worse than A. There is never a situation in which B is the correct choice." and B would win most of the time. The only answer is a real Monarchy. I don't mean a benevolent monarchy, I mean an "Off with their heads!" monarchy.

I remember learning in either philosophy or poli sci class in high school about Aristotle's "proof" that the best theoretical form of government was a monarchy. Basically that in theory, a monarchy is being ruled by the single 1 person who is most qualified to rule. An oligarchy, by contrast, would be getting ruled by the 5 or so most qualified people, but the average qualification of all 5 would be less than that of the single highest; so your overall qualification of rulers is lower.

Just to be clear, a monarchy is only the answer is Aels is the Queen of a matriarchal system and I'm the chief enforcer. Also, there would be strict gun control - I'd control all the guns.

As a more serious comment, part of the point of a "republic" or "representative democracy" is that there are some things the people do not vote on directly. For instance - they don't get to vote on anything of any actual importance.

To defend democracy: "Democracy is the worst government form that exists - except for all others that have been tried" (paraphrased according to Winston Churchill).

I also believe in direct democracy. Switzerland has a direct democracy, and it works. The citizens also vote on important stuff, like the constitution.
They are not in the EU, but have plenty of treaties with the EU and neighboring countries. And they are rich and have a low unemployment rate.

Plus, they have a federal system, with clear competences for the federation, the cantons, and the towns. Maybe the European Constitution should have been modeled on the Swiss one.

And I believe that not letting people vote "because they are stupid" is a bad idea. People are allowed to drink and smoke, even though it's unhealthy. If we value freedom, we have to allow the freedom to make bad choices.

So I say: Let the Brits see how it turns out for them. If it means that the Pound is worth less than Turkish Lira, and Scotland leaves the UK... maybe they'll make a different choice next time.
