What you did this weekend

Post by Unvoiced_Apollo »

Because this forum needs more threads in incomsequential topics.

As for myself, I went to a social dance Friday where I learned some basic Salsa & bachata steps. That was pretty fun but I couldn't keep up with the music. It was a bit overwhelming. I did dance with a couple ladies (who had to be the lead because of their experience) but I was looking down at my feet to keep up, and it may have looked like I was looking elsewhere [uhoh] [laugh].

Saturday I went kayaking with a group to this little cove not more than a mike away from the rental place. We hung out for a few hours, swimming (after beaching our kayaks of course) and learning how to get back into the kayak. Then I had a phone conversation with someone I messaged online and I'm hoping to call ger tonight and arrange a date.

Sunday, I went to King's Dominion with one of my meetup groups. We had a blast & the group stuck together until near the end. I ended up going on a new ride called Delirium, which swings riders back & forth and the seats rotate horizontally. Fun, but not as intense as I hoped. It really made me laugh and the first time I rode I didn't know which way was up. Also met a few cute women, so if things don't work out with the above, I can always try getting to know one of them more (meetup site has private messaging options, so you know, it's not stalkery at all...).

So, what did you do?

Honestly, I did nothing but suffer and suffer and suffer thanks to stupid pollen. The pollen count has been either high or very high every day for the past week and it's going to continue on through this week and all the antihistamines in the world are not stopping me from wheezing and sneezing my days out. I was so ill on Saturday night I wanted to scream. Today I can't breathe through my nose and I have to keep using my inhaler. I just sat in bed watching movies. Miss Congeniality, the first Hobbit, the first Pirates of the Caribbean, Zombieland, Les Mis, The Quiet Ones, basically whatever was on telly.

Your weekend sounds really fun! My dad's girlfriend has dragged him to salsa and while he is not a salsa fan, he likes bachata.

Drove to Albuquerque with my wife and kid, and we checked out the zoo, the botanic gardens, the aquarium, and the museum of natural science, and my wife turned $25 into $27 after 90 minutes in the casino, while I turned $20 into 3 tall bottles of Budweiser outside the casino (I don't like to gamble).

I think allergies are finally getting to me too, but not as bad as that. Looking at a screen with itchy, watery eyes is no bueno.

Bachata is a little slower & easier so that might be why he likes it.

Weekend was fun but I need to listen to my introverted side & take a day off XD. I'm drain At least I got out the house. It's so damned easy to let inertia take over if you don't seek things out

Well a net loss of $17 is better than what most people walk away with after going to a casino!
How were the zoo, gardens, & museum?

I started re-watching Lost, and started re-playing Ocarina of Time.

I got really, really drunk Saturday night, mostly on sangria. Then went to the beach in Southie before it started to rain, headed back to my friend's place before vomiting several times in his toilet. It's been a while since I've been that drunk, and then that hungover the following day. I then played two games of softball Sunday evening, and we lost both games though I played surprisingly well given my condition at the time.

Drank with friends, walked about 15km playing Pokemon go while drinking with friends, watched some episodes of SW Clone Wars and Bloodline.

The complete Civilization V (with all the expansions!) was on 92% discount on Steam. Got the whole thing for about $10 instead of the usual $100+. I've been incredibly unproductive since.

I've also been clearing up my family's study room over the past few months. New bits of floor are viable again, as is a whole desk that my brother was surprised to see we had. [none] Meanwhile my dad finally gave me permission to throw out stuff from before 2000 that had no sentimental value (mostly receipts and bills, including one for a guitar purchase in 1976 that he has no recollection of; I kept that one), and I uncovered a whole bunch of awesome 80s brochures that he had been keeping all this time. (I kept those.) I like how they specified that the advertised television sets were colour TVs. Or "New from Sony... VHS video decks". Computers then were horribly expensive - a few thousand dollars each, plus all their specs sucked. I found a complaint letter my dad wrote when his computer refused to start up, but mostly at night for some reason. It's amazing. It's like a room-size time capsule in there with so many great things lost amidst the junk.

I got made redundant a month or so ago and I started a new job last week. So I spent the weekend reading up on Tableau cos that's what they use there and I've never actually used it before so I thought I should probably try and learn a little bit about it now rather than just trying to blag it (like I'd been doing all last week).

Work today made a bit more sense.

Thanks! It's only a short term contract so I still need to find a permanent position but in the interim the money's good and there's no real responsibility....
