Am I the only person that hates Windows 8?
Am I the only person that hates Windows 8?
I get that on the phone is the most wonderful thing in the world or whatever.
But goddamit?! It's been like two years I've had this and it's like they decided to complicate things for the sake of complicating them! It's HORRIBLE!

I've been using it for about a year and a half now; and I'm basically used to it. The thing is, if you choose to, you can ignore the whole "windows 8 thing" and use it basically the same way you used Windows 7.

Windows 8.1 is not that bad.
Windows 8 without the start button was a bit annoying, but workable.
And some programs work better on Windows 8.1 than on Windows 7. I have a notebook with Windows 8.1, and a computer with Windows 7; and some programs run better on the notebook.
But this could be due to the overall configuration; not the operating system.

Common sense is another word for prejudice.

After getting used to it I like it. Only since 8.1 though.

Is Windows 8 the bullshit that tries to make your computer look like an iPad? If so, fuck that. I click on the desktop thing so it looks like a computer instead.

Not sure what you mean... it can be set up so that it goes to the desktop when it starts up.Unvoiced_Apollo wrote:But that's a whole extra step.Gendo wrote:I've been using it for about a year and a half now; and I'm basically used to it. Seriously though I either didn't know that and haven't tried or tried it and gave up and forgot I could.

My windows opens directly to the standard desktop like gendo's. Fuck that tile malarky, load of useless bollocks most of it.

It's okay if you're using it on a touch screen otherwise I agree that it's generally shit...

I've been using it (8.1) on my Surface for the past 9 months or so, and after an initial period of reluctance, I really like it now.
Sure - it is a touch screen and it seems to have been purposely built with touch screens in mind but - there are some really neat features in there that I've actually come to love.
Things I miss - is the ability to click on the start button, go to programs and see all your installed programs, But given this has been replaced with an excellent search app, I don't really miss this all that much. Using the search is a much quicker way of getting to a program you are looking for.
I really like the live tiles thing given you can see current information that a variety of apps are receiving before you decide whether or not to open it up and have a look.
Even tho I do have a touch screen - I rarely use it as a primary interface, I normally use my keyboard and mouse like a normal PC and really haven't seen much of a downside to this as opposed to exclusively using touch - the main thing I use touch for is scrolling thru screen quickly.
My executive summary - most of the issue people have with 8.1 come down to resisting change and knowing the new design to learn how to do what you used to do but in the new way. Its a good system.
