Since we're all Game Of Throned up...

Post by ultron-2 »

I gotta say I'm kind of REALLY excited to see some new material, the closer this show gets to caught up with the books the bigger boner I get to see something new.

Looking forward to this season even tho it will probably be mostly DWD material.

How much of it is going to be DWD material and how much of it is going to be something not released yet/something they made up? Theon's storyline was the only good thing about DWD and they've already done most of that. Everyone else's storyline is so flat and stale that they can easily go through them in a single episode.

If it's going to be mostly brand new, or else from the next book which Martin hasn't even released yet, that means the show would spoil the books, which is a pretty spectacular level of fail. So I'm pretty nervous about it.

I really don't care if they spoil the books. Dude takes like 100 years to write one book, it's about time decent people finishes it.

Book spoilers ahead...

That I'm not sure. I think, especially given how there's only like 13 eps per season, that they have enough with DWD to get some balls rolling. There's plenty with Jon at the wall, there's Arya training in the house of black and white, Tyrion over in the free cities, which kind of disappoints me because they make it look like Tyrion is going to get with Dany in the previews, but in the books there's none of that. I can't remember if she rebuffs him or they just never meet but it's a fail. Her story was stale as shit until the end. So honestly, outside of Jon and Arya...I'm not sure how it will go, but they have to keep things moving. I doubt Martin plans on releasing the next book in the next 12 months but either way I see the show surpassing his books in the next two years and I'm honestly not against it. They don't have to match up for me to enjoy both. I'd be ok with the show runners doing their own thing from here on out, or just keeping Martin close by to get the major points and events.

Spoilers.

There's only ten episodes per season, but really, none of the storylines in the last book are interesting or dynamic enough to be compelling for ten episodes. I can't even remember anything Jon did in that book besides get his throat slit. Arya does nothing, and she only gets like two chapters anyway. Tyrion's story was the second-best, but it was still mostly lame. And Dany... well, you know. She does nothing for the entire book, and the few things she does they already showed. And I heard somewhere they're getting rid of Quentyn's story, so that's out as well. So not much of the actual book is really going to be in there. I have to imagine they're either going to skip ahead or make something up. They're not really good at making things up by themselves, so I guess the best option is to skip ahead. That would be a pretty major fail on Martin's fault. Some of his fans have been waiting for two decades for the series to finish and after all that they're going to get spoiled by the show.

I personally wouldn't mind too much, as I think the show is superior to the books, but still. It would be pretty pitiful.

Well if anything there's going to be more nudity and sex scenes.

I remember being pissed because there was a lot of sex scenes in season 2 that could have been used to get more story. Imagine now that there's no story!

I think there's plenty of stuff for one season...its just scattered all over. Not one storyline moves ahead a whole lot, I don't think. But they all move some. I kind of want a flash forward tho...in the books and the novels. I thought that was idea a while back when I first started reading them but so far it hasn't come to pass.

But I honestly think part of my excitement is because they may run out of story, and will add new elements. That's where Im most curious. I haven't minded any of the changes theyve made and in some cases I prefer them over the books. I think this could be a good opportunity for the show to streamline some of Martins unraveling storyline in these latter novels. For that, Im kind of optimistic.

Won't know until we watch tho so...[giveup]

Maybe. It's definitely going to be interesting, at least.

I only read the title, but who didn't see that coming? When they announced the show I figured at some point they'd catch up and surpass the novels based on how quickly TV show seasons can be done and how long Martin takes to release novels.

I'm probably in the minority in that I'm eager to see the show work with new material. Call me an optimist. [biggrin{

I DON'T CARE! As long as someone advances the story.

I know it's kind of mediocre on part of G.R.R. Martin, but whadyagonnado! [giveup]
