So as most of you know, I am excruciatingly shy. It's hard for me to really talk or socialize in a way that goes in both directions. As such, I've started doing things outside my comfort zone. It's why I participated in a Filipino culture show for 4 years in college. It's how I got into karaoke. I've joined various Meetup.com groups and participated in several events. I'm now the co-organizer of one. The point is I'm going out more, trying new things, and doing my best to socialize.
Tonight was another experience. I heard about this swing dancing event and because it was free, including a lesson on the basics. I went stag, which did make things a little more difficult. I was able to ask a couple of women to dance, which they both accepted. That was difficult for me to approach them, but at least I was able to. Especially when I had just learned the basics. I didn't interact enough with either to get a number...but like I said...baby steps.
In addition, I'm checking interest with the group I'm a co-organizer of on an upcoming swing dancing event in July.
Baby Steps

Well done! I always wanted to learn swing dancing.

I've always wanted to sing Bohemian Rhapsody on Karaoke.
But good for you Kevin Apollo! I'm so proud of you!

Re: Baby Steps
They taught us the very basic steps of what would the basis for a Lindy hop. For men it was triple step left, triple step right, rock step left, repeat. For women, just reverse it: triple step right, triple step left, rock step right.aels wrote:Well done! I always wanted to learn swing dancing.
There, you now know how to swing dance.
They taught us a couple of spin moves, but it's simply women turning on their triple steps.

Re: Baby Steps
Thanks. There's still a shell. Any sort of socializing with strangers takes a lot out of me.Islandmur wrote:Glad to hear you getting out of your shell ! I'm so happy for you!
But as I said, it was fun, even if I couldn't keep the steps perfect.
