Apparently it's drinking a shot of beer every minute for an hour. I, er, don't see the challenge.

Ah, I've done that. It's surprisingly effective given that you're not drinking that much. Also take into account that British shot measurements are tiny.

That's because a standard shot is roughly 1.5 ounces, and 12 ounced is the standard recommendation as a serving for beer. They say men, if they drink in moderatiin, should drink at most two servings. You barely went over 5 servings.

A power hour is usually around 7-8 drinks, actually. 1.5oz x 60mins = 90 oz/12oz(per beer) = 7.5 beers.

It usually rounds up to 8 because when people pour out a shot and it feels like there's not much left in their can or bottle they chug the rest, or they take a few sips after initially opening a can as pouring that first shot can be tricky at times.

I thought a shot was 1 ounce?

And 8 beers in an hour sounds like a lot.

Most shot glasses, at least in the US, are 1.5 oz as a single serving of liquor is considered to be 1.5 oz.

Per the NIAAA:

"In the United States, one "standard" drink contains roughly 14 grams of pure alcohol, which is found in: 12 ounces of regular beer, which is usually about 5% alcohol. 5 ounces of wine, which is typically about 12% alcohol. 1.5 ounces of distilled spirits, which is about 40% alcohol."

It was somewhat effective, and shots are 1.5 ounces. 7.5 beers is the correct amount. A couple of the guys kept going to 100 shots. I went to take a piss and get some air. One guy fell out, but he almost never drinks.

Note: some people drink piss beer like Natural Light. Yuck.
